Today we’d like to introduce you to Peyton Lantz
Hi Peyton, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve had a love for photography and filmmaking ever since I could hold a camera. I would write stories and shoot short films on my IPod touch with my friends as a kid. As I got older, I was able to explore these interests more while furthering my education. In 2018, I went to Florida State University and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Media Studies and Psychology.. A good peer of mine who was a bit older was already involved in the production world, so when I graduated I reached out and got my first job as a production assistant. My first job is what really got the ball rolling, and afterward it was a snowball effect. I started pursuing my career as a creative director while doing photography on my own as well. I started my own company, called Pixel Peyt Inc. in 2021 and I’ve been building it since then! I have worked on countless shows, movies, music videos, documentaries, etc.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As many people, I’ve had my fair share of personal struggles. I have overcome obstacles in my family and personal life that were very challenging for me. My creativity was always an outlet for me. I am blessed to have gotten some amazing opportunities that shifted my alignment and brought me to the place I am in now. My path was perfectly paved for me. With this being said, I have worked very hard to demonstrate my passion and keep climbing in a very competitive industry. I was thrown into my first production not knowing anything, and I rose to the occasion. My personal struggles have given me the grit and determination to accomplish all the things I have dreamt for myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a freelance production specialist and photographer. I specialize in lifestyle, editorial, and fashion photography. Editorial photography is really my passion and what I am known best for. On the production side of things, I work mostly on films, TV series, and sports documentaries. I frequently assist the camera department, shoot behind the scenes photos, assist with art and set decorating, perform practical special effects, you name it! I believe what separates me from others is my optimism. I am known best for my positive attitude and smile on set. The production world can be chaotic, but I really pride myself on lifting up the people around me. I always have a strong sense of gratitude for interacting with other talented creatives and the places I’ve ended up because of my work. Every shoot is a learning experience and I am very grateful for that.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I enjoy reading in my spare time, but I’d say the resource that helps me most is YouTube. I have spent hours teaching myself about different equipment, editing tools, tips and tricks, etc. It is a huge learning outlet for me. I am subscribed to several channels of professionals that review their work and share helpful experiences with other creatives.
