Check Out Paula Cabano’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Cabano.

Paula Cabano

Hi Paula, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’m a dancer, choreographer, and teacher from the small country Uruguay. I have danced my whole life, but a year ago, I decided to move to the United States to pursue better and bigger opportunities to share my art.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an Immigrant is tough. If you are, you will understand what I’m going to say. I don’t feel from anywhere anymore. When I’m in Uruguay I miss my life in the US, when I’m in the US, I miss my life in Uruguay.

Since moving, I have been feeling so alone yet more connected with myself, and more aware of my surroundings. I feel so grateful for all that I’m living and experiencing, even the rough patches. Because at the end of the day, I know I’m becoming a better person and professional.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m proud to say I’m a very versatile dancer. Nowadays, I focus more on Urban dance styles but throughout my career, I have studied many styles, both street and academic ones. When I create a dance piece I pull the inspiration from Dancehall, Afro, House, and Hip-Hop.

I have been choreographing in this lane for artists such as Maluma, Lunay, CNCO, Masha Michelle, and more. Currently, I’m also mentoring artists with the creative direction of their projects and movement coaching. I’m in the Institute Art House, directed by the renowned producer Julio Reyes. Where I work with artists such as Joaquina, ROA, Baltazar Lora, Maura, Fabian Zignago, and more.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The Latin industry is growing by the day.

In our culture dance is key, so in my opinion, is going to keep growing and flourishing. I am sure we will have worldwide stars who are going to provide work for the whole Latin entertainment industry.
