Check Out Oxana Polzler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oxana Polzler.

Hi Oxana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a painter living near Zürich, Switzerland.

Although i have been painting all my life since childhood, my true creative journey began in Innsbruck, Austria, in 2010 with a career in architecture. In 2015 I came to realize that I feel most fulfilled when experimenting with my artworks.

I painted in the evenings – after my regular workdays in the architectural office.

I quickly became deeply passionate about my creations, and gradually began organizing exhibitions to share my work with the public in Austria, Germany, and the UK.

I loved seeing how my visions came to life and how they inspired both friends and exhibition visitors.

Architecture gave me a foundation in structural and analytical thinking — but painting gave me the sense of creating a world of my own.

My most recognizable style is what I call pop art, though over the years it has evolved in its own way. Today, I also find myself drawn to abstraction, experimenting with new forms and continuing the search for ever-deeper modes of self-expression.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned as an artist is that true freedom of expression is only possible when you are free from conventions and expectations.

The moment you start painting in order to please galleries or potential buyers, you inevitably begin to adjust yourself to what others want. You choose motifs, colors, and dimensions not because they speak to you, but because you believe they’ll be more popular or appeal to someone else. And withat choice, a piece of your freedom is lost.

Of course, working with clients or preparing for an exhibition can be inspiring and motivating. But at the same time, these things always impose certain limits.

For me, real artistic freedom begins only when you are no longer bound by needs, expectations, or even your own ambitions. That’s when you find the space to make the most authentic choices — and to create from a place of genuine.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The path of an artist is rarely an easy one, if only because there is no universal answer to where that path should lead. Is it a gradual unfolding of talent, an evolution sustained through constant refinement? Or is it a complete transformation of style, sometimes to the point of being unrecognizable? Is the goal public recognition and financial reward — or liberation from conventions and the realization of one’s own value, regardless of recognition?

More often than not, the artist’s journey is one of constant transformations, and it is not always clear where the true destination lies.

For me personally, the value of my experience has been the understanding that art, and the process of creation and transformation, are what remain with a person even beyond death. The act of creating a work of art, the birth of an idea — these forever belong to the artist. It is the one possession that continues to endure for as long as the world itself exists in the way we know it.

Any big plans?
Beyond painting, I have collaborated with a range of design and construction companies, bringing my art into unexpected contexts. In Germany, my work has been translated into clothing and footwear designs; in Austria, it has appeared on drink cans and bottles and in the decoration of communal spaces within buildings. I find great joy in expanding my artistic language into diverse projects, allowing my creativity to move beyond the canvas and into everyday life.
