Today we’d like to introduce you to Niki Peacock.
Hi Niki, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a dancer and model who educates the community about the importance of inclusivity and body positivity in the modeling and social media world. When I was younger, I felt as if I didn’t have a relatable influence online and saw no one with my body type or features on these social media platforms so I decided to do it myself, I still struggle with body acceptance and a lifelong eating disorder but through expressing myself online, I can help myself and many others be confident in themselves.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the struggles I faced were negative comments and harmful thinking invading my posts. I have a nobody edits policy on my page and the comments about my body tend to affect me and others in such a negative light that my body doesn’t deserve to be posted because it’s not perfect and I had to demolish that idea because everyone is beautiful and deserves to be celebrated.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a social media influencer, my job is to create content that encourages safe and healthy body views and normalize normal bodies. Changing the world and looking hot while doing it, it’s been time to change how we advertise with models, we see it worse in clothing and makeup where skin and bodies are edited to a hyper unrealistic standard than us people have to try to live up to. Through billboards and ads even tv shows people’s faces and bodies are perfected through video edit without even a disclaimer that that has been done. The ads are impossible to Avoid and the standards are impossible to obtain. With more people going body edits free, I think we would see a widespread change in how the world views people in digital media and I encourage you to try if only once to post without body edits so the world can see that that’s what we want to be the norm and will start to change the way we are presented with people in media.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to give time for yourself to be creative and express yourself. Don’t overwork and burn yourself out. Your body goes through a lot and you need to take care of it.
