Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Alexandra
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my career in the Fashion and Entertainment industries 11 years ago working as a Wardrobe Stylist and Costume Designer. Throughout the past years I’ve traveled both nationally and internationally styling and designing for various television shows, films, music videos, commercials, photoshoots, and other various productions. A pivotal point in my career came when covid hit. Production work came to a halt, which gave me time to consider other career paths. During this time I started a passion project, Over The Decades, which has evolved into a beautiful thriving business today.
Over The Decades was created as a reflection of all the things I love – history, romance, and beauty; it’s a lifestyle brand inspired by an appreciation of history, art, nature, ethereal femininity, and all things romantic.
At Over The Decades we create bespoke headpieces, accessories, jewelry, and clothing. Our collections are comprised of limited edition pieces which are handcrafted in Miami, FL. Through our designs we aim to blend historical and modern styles to create beautiful vintage-inspired pieces for modern romantics.
We follow a slow paced fashion model in which most items are made to order to reduce waste in the environment, as well incorporate recycled, re-purposed and up-cycled materials into our designs. This approach allows us not only to be environmentally mindful but also to create entirely unique pieces to be treasured by those who wear them. Our ‘One of a Kind’ Collection is an embodiment of these efforts – the collection features unique pieces made from up-cycled vintage jewelry and dead-stock fabrics.
In our design studio we also offer bespoke services for brides, such as custom bridal headpieces and gowns.
The newest addition to our Design Studio is the OTD Floral Studio. Which allows us to offer a full service experience for our bridal clients. The Over The Decades Floral Studio specializes in creating bespoke arrangements for special events & weddings that are intimate and unique. In addition to floral design and table-scape services, we offer a curated selection of rental items such as vintage decor, vases, candles, and much more. At Over The Decades we take great pride in operating with eco-friendly and sustainable practices. In our Floral Studio we make an effort to limit single use plastics, design without the use of toxic flower foam, and source the highest quality seasonal flowers. This attention to detail allows us to craft artful designs that not only look stunning but also contribute to a more sustainable future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but what creative career path is? For many years I struggled with finding a work-life balance. My 11 years in the production industry were comprised of 14+ hour days and 7-day work weeks for months at time (not to mention the many all-nighters). It took a big health scare to make me put everything into perspective and learn to prioritize both my mental and physical health. Today, I am blessed to work in a career that I love with the freedom to manage my own schedule.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With over 11 years of experience in the fashion and entertainment industries, I’ve had the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills that I’m truly proud of. My background in styling and design has been the foundation for building Over The Decades, a brand that I am truly passionate about. As a creative I strive to live with a sense of curiosity, always eager to learn and grow. This genuine love of learning has led me to explore many different fields—from fashion design, millinery, and jewelry making to marketing and floral design. I believe this diverse knowledge allows me to offer my clients a wide variety of services while creating a truly unique and personalized experience.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I truly believe in creating your own good luck! To me, success is a blend of hard work, perseverance, passion, and an unwavering belief that you can and will succeed. I also believe in the power of manifestation, which I apply in both my personal and professional life.
