Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Fazaeli.
Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion for art and Design and after working in the Interior Design industry for years I felt the need to test out my own art skills. I started drawing and painting my interpretation of animals on newspaper. They were very whimsical and the animals were a bit overweight lol. Clearly before Ozempic.
Friends soon started inquiring about them and would ask me to do their pets. Then I started selling them and that’s how it all started. Since then my style has changed a bit and continues to evolve as I travel and find news things that inspire me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing is ever easy and if it was everyone would be doing it. Of course, you get turned down by galleries for whatever reason and there’s always a fear of putting yourself out there.
Art is very personal so it takes time to get noticed. It also helps to be able to overcome rejection.
I’ve been very blessed to have amazing collectors that share posts of my work and refer me to their friends and family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My art is fun and definitely conversation pieces. It’s also a bit edgy and politically incorrect. I think I’m most known for the unexpected with some crazy wording. I also embellish some of my pieces with crystals and gold leaf which makes it’s a bit more unexpected and adds beauty when the light catches it just right. I love using old book pages and burning the edges to give it texture.
I have now started doing a bit more sketch work with pastels on paper which is a totally different vibe for me.
I love working with interior Designers on their projects from residential to hospitality and think I’m most proud of those commissioned projects.
How do you think about happiness?
If you would have asked me this 10 years ago I would have given a completely different response…Perhaps it would have been making money and accomplishing my goals which were never enough.
Now, as I’ve gotten older I’m blessed to have my husband, family and friendships that have stood the test of time.
It’s the little things like having wine with friends and intimate dinner parties. I love real life deep conversations and try to see the beauty in everything. Life can be hard so enjoy the good times while they last. And of course I’d be lying if I didn’t mention I also love shoes and handbags! Lol
