Today we’d like to introduce you to Matias Perez.
Hi Matias, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Matias Nicolas Peres, DIFFER as an artist name, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and 32 years old. I started DJing at the early 13th just at home, with a dream, to become a professional DJ/artist. At the early 14th I got my first job as a DJ in a venue called Grand House, near my home, playing open format music for 15th bdays, 50th bdays, wedding parties, all that kind of events, every single weekend, I was too young and I lost years of hanging with friends during the weekends, but I was for the best choice of my life.
During all those years I started growing up as a DJ and started playing in clubs and I discovered my passion for the electronic music.
I started to feel stuck in Buenos Aires and I wanted more than that, I wanted to be an international artist, not just DJ, so at my age of 24 I moved to United States, Miami and I my new life begun.
Nowadays my name become an artist name and I perform in the best clubs of the states, and also around America.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My new life in Miami wasn’t a smooth way at all, I was alone, no family, no friends, just an objective in my head. The firsts years were super difficult, working in restaurants in Ocean Drive, Miami, trying to get into the electronic scene. After try and try I started getting my firsts gigs at Treehouse Miami, then Do not Sit on the Furniture, along many others big and recognized venues.
I worked too hard on my career and now I have my own brand SHYFT, that become a Music Academy with the Miami Awards 2022, Record Label, Artists Agency, and Event Producer.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a DJ and producer, so when I performer I grab both skills and combine them making a hybrid show, like kind of mix tracks and also with Ableton Live do a lot of live things over the tracks so I make a special atmosphere that put me in the first levels of the game. I’m known for my type of mix and setup, and for the sound systems I use to perform and in my personal events, and for the audio-visual show I give to the crowd. I have my full hybrid Setup provided by Playdifferently (MODEL 1), Native-Intruments, Allen & Heat, and Antelope Audio.
I am most proud of my beginning as I told at the aryls 14th, cuz thanks I started playing years of music from the 60s until those years, all formats, all genres, now I have a big skill that is read the dance floor, read the bar, read the whole night, and that’s is something that u can’t learn without too many years of experience, is something unique that all artists of my age or older that started at a very young age can tell.
I have too many sets to tell, but to be quick I could apart the n of Cordoba, Argentina, at Laguna Azul, or the one I open the stage from Green Velvet and Eric Pryds at iiiPoints Festival Miami. but I have a lot of shows with big artists that I would love to share every single one.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I can personal tell and affirm, from my own experience, if you refocus on what you want, you will get it, 100% confirmed. I left Argentina with everything on my hand and arriving to the states with nothing, no home, no friends, no family, no money, I didn’t have to eat, but I had an objective between my eyes, something to keep focus, and now I can tell, I’m doing what I want and the way I want!
