Today we’d like to introduce you to Marko Djokic.
Hi Marko, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My story started in 1999 when I started at a small furniture family-run showroom in Coral Gables. Over the next 21 years, I helped the company grow into a multi-location success story and was crucial in the concept, product, and commercial strategy. However, as things have a season, I felt creatively restricted because I know that there was so much more from Italy that I could offer the market. This led into me branching out on my own and establishing the first Italo Design showroom with my wife Gabby Majorel. We started as a 1,500-square-foot showroom in Little River and quickly expanded to 3,000 then 6,000 and in rapid succession moving to our North Miami Beach/Aventura location at the end of last year. Due to the fact that I have been in the market for the last 23 years and the impeccable reputation, all of my clients followed us to Italo Design, and my good friend whose location I took over in North Miami Beach/Aventura handed off her clientele base.
We were also were fortunate to have an opportunity to open a showroom in Naples at the same time, our collections sell themselves and with our emphasis on a diverse product offering, logistical superiority, and personalized service, Italo Design really does not have any direct competition in the market. We are also opening a showroom in Mimo towards the end of next year that we are very excited about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are no rough roads when you know there will be waves and you can see the Lighthouse up in the distance. We know and knew where we wanted to go. We knew what it would take (as I did it back in 2005 for the previous company that I helped build) and we LOVE what we do, and we LOVE the journey. When you love the journey…all roads are smooth.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our showroom is one of the rare design showrooms that is open 7 days a week. This allows us to cater to clients from all wakes of life (professional, family obligations) or those that need to observe certain religious considerations. What sets us apart is passion. I know that everyone talks about passion…but our passion is an obsession that is easily conveyed to our clientele. Our specialty is Made in Italy furniture, and our name ITALO DESIGN easily conveys who and what we are about.
