Today we’d like to introduce you to Marilyn Sanchez.

Marilyn Sanchez

Hi Marilyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi there! I’m Marilyn. I am a boudoir and portrait photographer based here in Miami. I got into this type of photography about 17 years ago because I know what it’s like to feel a bit lost as a woman juggling marriage, kids, and work. It’s been an incredible journey, and now I get to travel across the country, capturing the beauty and strength of women.

Outside of photography, I’m a mom to a beautiful teenage daughter and have a loving partner by my side. Our family is complete with two beautiful but crazy huskies, Ghost and Saint. Apart from being a photographer, I love traveling. I’m a big fan of scary movies and love going out on dinner/movie dates. It’s the simple things that make life special, right?

Photography, for me, is more than just a job. It’s a way of helping women reconnect with their strength and sensuality. Having photographed over 15,000 amazing women, I’ve come to see each photograph as a unique story of resilience and self-discovery.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entering the world of boudoir photography more than 17 years ago, I found myself navigating uncharted waters. Back then, convincing people that it was more than just a risqué endeavor was close to impossible. Boudoir photography, as a genre was not yet understood, and was often put into the “taboo” category rather than appreciated as a unique art form. I had my work cut out for me, not just to capture stunning images but also to educate on the beauty and empowerment behind each shot.

The struggle was real. People were quick to judge, associating boudoir photography with something explicit and dirty rather than seeing the celebration of sensuality and courage that it truly was. Breaking these stereotypes demanded not just technical skills but also the ability to communicate the transformative power of this art. I was patient, determined, and believed in the depth of each photograph I took. It wasn’t just about pictures; it was about challenging norms and showcasing the beauty beyond the surface.

As time went by, the tide began to turn. The challenges became opportunities, and the artistry of boudoir photography started getting the recognition it deserved. Being one of the first allowed me to contribute to reshaping the narrative, transforming boudoir photography from a misunderstood concept to a celebrated form of self-expression and empowerment. Today, I look back with pride, knowing that I played a part in this evolution. Boudoir photography is no longer just a visual medium; it’s a testament to the strength, beauty, and individuality of each person it captures.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my journey as a boudoir photographer, my work is an emotional tapestry woven through the intricate dance of lighting, shadows, moods, details, and diverse focal points. What sets my work apart is the soulful attention I pour into each component. Whether it’s the gentle play of light accentuating the curves of a subject, the deliberate use of shadows to evoke emotion or the thoughtful arrangement of details, every element contributes to a narrative that transcends the surface.

Boudoir photography, to me, is a canvas for self-expression and a joyous celebration of inner strength. I’ve become known for capturing more than mere images; my mission is to encapsulate the very essence of a person, narrating their unique story. I try to set the stage for an atmosphere that welcomes people to reconnect with their sensuality and embrace their inner strength.

What really makes my heart happy as a woman and as an artist is seeing how deeply my work affects the people I photograph. Honestly, It’s the most rewarding part. Watching my clients go through this incredible journey of embracing their new found strength and beauty is so fulfilling. It’s like a powerful reminder of how art has this extraordinary ability to spark self-love and empowerment. Ultimately, my work is about curating an experience that creates a lasting impression, a visual narrative that resonates with the very essence of the soul.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of the things I absolutely love about Miami is its vibrant and diverse culture. The city is a melting pot of different backgrounds, languages, and traditions, creating an atmosphere that’s rich in energy and excitement. The art scene here is incredible and everyone is open to all the different types of art that are born here. And of course, the food is a delightful mix of flavors, with amazing options representing cuisines from all over the world.

Now to the downside, the fast-paced lifestyle can be a bit overwhelming at times. Miami is always on the go, and while that energy is invigorating, it also comes with moments when I crave a bit of tranquility. The traffic can be a challenge, especially during rush hours, making it a bit of a love-hate relationship with the city. However, the sunny beaches and the relaxed vibes they offer do provide a great escape when I need some downtime.
