Hi Magaly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I began searching for a job in the Architectural and design field, which was quite amusing because I discovered my dream position as an Interior Designer. Unfortunately, I was unable to secure the job at that time due to not having obtained my work permit.
After a year had passed, I finally obtained my work permit. I reached out to those amazing girls again, expressing my desire to work with them even if it meant doing it for free, just to be part of their team. Luckily, they hired me on a part-time basis, and a few months later, I transitioned into a full-time Interior Designer. Working alongside them, I gained invaluable knowledge and had the pleasure of meeting incredible people who are now my friends.
After spending six years with this Interior Design Firm, I made the leap to start my own business as a Designer in 2020, right when COVID-19 arrived in the USA. Despite the challenging circumstances, I am grateful to have persevered and maintained a positive outlook while continually striving for growth.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an interior designer entrepreneur, I would respond to the question as follows: I view the challenges I’ve faced as valuable learning experiences that have helped me grow both personally and professionally. Another challenge I encountered was managing the various aspects of running a business, such as finances, marketing, and client management.
As a solopreneur or a small business owner, wearing multiple hats can be demanding. Keeping up with design trends and technologies is also a challenge. The interior design industry is constantly evolving, and staying relevant requires continuous learning and adapting to new techniques and technologies.
I invested time in attending workshops, and industry events, and keeping up with the latest design publications to ensure that I stay ahead of the curve. In summary, while there have been challenges along the way, I believe that each step has presented an opportunity for growth and improvement.

Truly learn and grow. Embrace the journey and don’t be afraid to take that first step. Networking and building connections with other designers are invaluable. Reach out to fellow professionals in the industry, attend design events, join online communities, and participate in forums or social media groups dedicated to interior design.
Engaging with others in the field will provide you with valuable insights, support, and inspiration. Remember, everyone starts somewhere, and sharing experiences and ideas can be mutually beneficial. Additionally, believe in yourself and your abilities. Confidence plays a crucial role in your success as an entrepreneur. Trust your creative vision, embrace your unique style, and have faith in your skills.
Surround yourself with positive influences, mentors, and cheerleaders who can uplift and encourage you during challenging times. It’s essential to remember that mistakes and setbacks are part of the learning process. Don’t be discouraged by them; instead, view them as opportunities for growth.
