Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Lucia Pezza.
Hi Kristina Lucia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started drawing lessons when I was 7 years old and quickly realized that I wanted to pursue art as a career. Like so many creatives, the question of how I would make this dream possible was unclear.
To support myself I found myself in various roles that allowed me to cover the bills and at times deny my calling to be an artist.
In 2018 an opportunity arose for me to begin a career pivot. A year later I was laid off from my job and found myself propelled into a situation where I realized that I was destined to become an entrepreneur.
At the time I had a portfolio of crocheted stuffies that I had designed and created. My pitch was that I told stories through these characters. This concept led me to start writing my blog and by the end of 2020 I discovered my calling to both write and illustrate a family book series.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. A lot of the obstacles is building an audience.
I find a lot of times people do not understand the concept behind my brand and what I am offering. When this happens, I find myself going back to the drawing board and asking how I can bring more clarity to my pitch. Also take these moments as learning opportunities to see who are the people I should be running after and connecting with.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist, I specialize in creating low stimulation products and experiences where participants can relate and share their feelings and impressions how of the work touches them. My brand mission is improving communication through the recognition and identification of feelings in both ourselves and others.
I am known as the human whisperer. On many occasions I have been told that I make people comfortable and create a safe space where they are able to share openly.
I am most proud when people react to my book series in their own way. When someone turns to a fellow family member and says Aunt Lucy is their Grandmother, a mom shares how their child decided to ride their bike again after reading how Bella Elephant learned to ride her bike, and when parents share their family memories with their children after reading many other stories about Bella Elephant and her family.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
“The Latte Factor” was a book that really shaped my mindset for becoming an entrepreneur. Also, listening to interviews of creatives who share their journey. Creating your own path is a struggle that not many people speak about and it takes time.
