Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Katie Cerami, living in Fort Lauderdale. I’m a professional luxury and adventure travel artist and transformation coach. I started my journey in the industry of aviation as a VIP charter flight attendant. During my trips around the globe, I began taking photographs on my iPhone which is what led me to the realization of my hidden creative talent of photography. I shot on an iPhone for about a year and then was gifted a Cannon point and shoot camera by a friend. I went on to use it for six months until I bought myself my first ever semi-professional mirrorless camera. I would travel to all these incredible destinations all around the world. I would venture out to the most magnificent landscapes I could find, and I would photograph them. I later started posting them on Instagram and began receiving a lot of incredible feedback from it. I did this for about three years traveling all over the world. Today, I’m a professional luxury and adventure photographer, videographer and drone pilot. I travel all over the world collaborating and working with different hotels, resorts, adventure/tour companies and brands that sell travel products and gear. Aside from this, I also freelance on mega yachts shooting content for yacht charter companies and working as a deck/stew. This led to many people inquiring of how I live the lifestyle that I do, which later made me think of how I could help others to live similarly. I pursued a life coaching certification to coach others to transition out of traditional jobs and into ones that are not so ordinary. To sum it up, I now travel the world creating media for travel companies and brands, I freelance on yachts, and I’m a life coach with many other exciting ventures in the works.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road by any means. It still isn’t. The biggest hurdle I went through over a year and a half ago after creating my first LLC was dealing with all the travel bans and changes in the marketplace due to COVID. I had just quit my job as a flight attendant. It was a lot more difficult for me to land hotel collaborations during this time and I was just getting started. I took an alternative route and started shooting swimsuit models and real estate to stay afloat while I figured it all out. My next biggest hurdle was working out all the kinks and figuring out the right pitch when pitching brands. How to word the pitches properly to get people to understand the value, not only in my work, but the problems I was helping them solve in the marketplace. It was all new to me. I also struggled a lot with perfectionism along the way which held me back from putting out a lot of really good work solely because I didn’t believe it was good enough. There’s so many struggles that come along the way when you venture into business for yourself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do photography, videography and aerial visuals for brands in the luxury and adventure travel space. This is anything from hotels, resorts, yachts, tour companies and travel products. I specialize in photography and drone photography within travel. I am known for my style of blues and my composition of photographs accompanied by my personality, impact and wisdom that comes along with it. I am most proud of seeing the way my work has evolved over time and also having the opportunity to collaborate and create with brands like Hilton Worldwide, Relais Chateaux, Cavo Tagoo, Mia Resorts, Twin Cay Private Island, Waiākea and Montage. My style and quality of work is definitely something that sets me apart from the crowd in terms of creativity. The biggest thing that sets me apart is my persistence and consistency with making it a priority to create meaningful and long-lasting relationships with my clients because at the end of the day you are selling YOU! My kindness, ability to connect and willingness to always go above and beyond is something that brands have found very valuable when working with me.
How do you think about happiness?
Traveling the world, being connected to who you are at your core, connecting with others, impacting others and being creative with photography, videography and aerial visuals. I say this because traveling has done so much for me as a person in many ways. It has brought me out of very dark places. Connecting with others is a huge component for me because I believe that connection is an essential component for living a fulfilled and meaningful life. Impacting and helping others because it lights me up to see success in others and to contribute to impacting others to see and think differently. You can’t change what people do but if you can change the way they think, they will change what they do. Being creative brings me so much happiness because it’s when my mind is most still when I am just creating. It’s an outlet for me to express the way I see the world. I then get to see all the incredible art come to fruition as I create from the natural beauty around the world, it’s astounding.
