Today we’d like to introduce you to KaiLisha Micole.
Hi KaiLisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began dancing around the age of eleven and I’ve always had the love of the spotlight and sharing my creativity with others.
I used to put on performances for my family. Choreographing dances with my nieces and nephews when I was young and the love of teaching grew into my adult years. From choreographing for artists to my own dance visual and still teaching adults and children there’s nothing like the joy of helping others to love themselves, their bodies and skin through movement. Sometimes words can’t always describe how we’re feeling hence “I can show you better than I can tell you” also art is so loud sometimes people don’t always listen with their ears but seeing the emotion through dance hits to heart heart. Dance is a language, even dancing with people who don’t speak the same language we connect through movement and now we can understand eachother.
I’ll always love dance and all the places it can take me. It’s taught me how to move in this world with love, patience and peace. I hope to continue to share, choreograph and teach. Even start my own studio and company one day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has its high and lows but No, it’s honestly always been a struggle. From back injury to low pay and men in the industry thinking they can do anything to women. Lately it’s been the hardest,my sister passed away when I was just a baby and I’ve always had the dream of making her proud by being my own boss, start my dance company choreograph/ dance for my favorite artist but recently towed my car and struggling financially and not in the best living situation makes me want to give up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional dancer with background training in ballet, contemporary, heels, jazz,Latin and hip hop.
I’m most proud of the bookings I’ve had in my city and outside of it.
I did a show at the United Center opened up for the artist named Tink.
Danced for Armon warren and choreography for Josh k.
Also booked a show in Virginia for Kenny Mathew’s that’s coming to Chicago this July 2025.
Of course music videos along the way I also model.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m always a student willing to learn that’s extremely focused and passionate about God and his timing. Falling in love with different versions of myself.
I am my own biggest fan, critic and competitor. Im always looking for ways to create the visions god gives me and make the world better by getting people to love themselves and eachother. I think we’re so out of touch with reality that we miss the present moments and who we are now and becoming tomorrow that we hate or compare ourselves to what we see on social media
But no one is posting their sadness or the struggles so people forget the hard work and dedication it takes to make those dreams happen it can happen no matter when.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Be vulnerable. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. And be a genuine kind person. Be authentically you. And ask questions be intentional about what you want to know and listen to the people that have done it!
