Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Rojas.
Joshua , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I picked up a camera about 13 years ago while working with my father in NYC. A friend who promoted nightclubs invited me out one night, and I noticed they didn’t have a photographer—so I offered to shoot. That turned into three years of nightclub photography until someone asked me to film a music video. I was hesitant at first, but once I did it, I knew I’d found my passion.
What started as a simple creative outlet eventually evolved into High Life Media, my video production company. Over time, I built a network of artists, brands, and creatives who trusted me to bring their visions to life. I also launched my podcast, Back By 9, to highlight real stories and authentic conversations.
Today, I’m focused on pushing creative boundaries, building community, and continuing to elevate storytelling through film and media.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been finding balance between real life and work—especially in a creative field that never really “clocks out.” As an independent entrepreneur and business owner, there are constant ups and downs, from managing projects to keeping things steady on the business side. But every challenge has taught me how to adapt, stay consistent, and keep growing through it all.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a music video director, best known for bringing a cinematic approach to my work. I don’t just focus on the artist performing to the camera—I like to build stories around the music, blending performance with acting, emotion, and captivating visual effects. My attention to quality, color grading, and storytelling is what really sets my work apart.
I take pride in creating videos that feel like short films, not just music visuals. Beyond the technical side, I’m also known for the energy I bring to set. I make sure every shoot has a positive vibe and that everyone involved feels inspired and creative.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always artistic and full of imagination. I loved creating things and finding new ways to express myself. We moved around a lot—about 11 times—so I learned early on how to adapt and connect with new people wherever I went. I was always social and outgoing, which naturally made me an extrovert. Music was my first passion, but once I got behind the camera, I knew I’d found my true calling. I’ve always enjoyed meeting and working with new people, and that energy still drives everything I do today.
