Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica de Oliveira.
Hi Jessica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for photography began as a teenager when I took my first photography class in high school. I explored photography and started my own “business” in 2008. I put business in quotes because I charged people $50 and had no contracts, website, email address, etc. I had a Facebook page and that was it, but I loved every minute of it. I’d convince my friends to get dressed up and go out for photoshoots regularly. I took a black-and-white film class in college and got hooked on processing my own images. In 2012 I put photography aside and focused on getting my degree in education and then teaching.
Fast forward to April 14th, 2020, I gave birth to my daughter, Rayna. It was right at the start of Covid and we weren’t able to take newborn images. So, I picked up my VERY old Canon t2i, watched dozens of YouTube videos, and took her photos. From there, my passion for photography was reignited. My husband got me a new camera to capture our family and after doing dozens of sessions with friends, I knew I wanted to pursue it further. In December 2020 I filed for my LLC and officially launched Jessica de Photography. It has been an incredible, yet challenging experience and I look forward to the future of my business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
While I do have to say, I feel fortunate that it has been a fairly simple road, that’s not to say it hasn’t been without struggle. My biggest struggle right now, as a stay-at-home mom of two littles, is the guilt that comes with leaving them. Then I remember how much it fills my cup and how important it is I do things for myself as well. I think all moms can relate to that! My other struggle is learning all the business things. I was teacher, so I never took business classes or ran a business. I’m very thankful my husband is able to help me with all that and explain things I don’t understand. It has been a process and I’ve learned so much in the last two years and continue to devote my time to always learning more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Over the years I have had the pleasure of capturing engagements, proposals, fashion photography, families, and even two small weddings… While I have had experience shooting many different types of sessions, my heart is in motherhood. I specialize in photographing pregnant mamas, newborns, children, and families. It is an honor to be chosen to capture the most monumental and raw moments in people’s lives. Whether you’re just having a baby or want images of your family just because, I’m your girl. I’m most proud of how hard I’ve worked to get my business to where it is in two short years. It has been many, many late nights trying to juggle motherhood and business ownership. What sets me apart from others is that I will work until 3 am to make sure I give my clients the best experience as possible. From start to finish I am there for my clients every step of the way, as my goal is to make the entire process seamless for my clients.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
