Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Smith.
Hi Jamie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My official baking journey started in mid 2019 during the COVID 19 shutdown. I was pregnant with my second child, craving sweets with a lot of time on my hands! I started experimenting with cookie recipes and dropping cookies off on the doorsteps of family and friends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been an interesting journey from baking in a small apartment kitchen while pregnant, baking in that same tiny kitchen with two children. Learning solely off YouTube, TikTok accounts. A lot of trial and error, finding and refining recipes. My husband did a lot of taste testing! After gaining confidence, then I had to sell myself!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently offer custom buttercream cakes, a variety of bakery style cookies and chocolate covered treats. Using different mediums to decorate cakes including small fondant pieces, toppers made with my Cricut. The options to get the desired outcome are limitless. I love getting so immersed in the decorating of cakes, it almost consumes me until I get to execute an idea. Sometimes a client will know exactly what they what and sometimes they’ll give you complete creative expression. Getting to create two beautiful things in one experience is my favorite.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family and close friends have been my biggest support system. My husband has been my taste tester, he’s helped me deliver cakes, take pictures, given me ideas, kept our children busy or out of the house so I could finish making a cake or a set of cookies. My family and friends are the firsts to like, share and recommend me when people are looking for treats!
