Check Out Giovanna Jaspid’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanna Jaspid.

Hi Giovanna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business in 2016 from my home office with a simple idea: to create custom decorative pillows that felt more personal and intentional than what I was finding in the market. I began working with leftover and reclaimed designer fabrics, which naturally grew into a focus on sustainability and using high-quality materials in a more thoughtful way. Over time, I built relationships with interior designers and started producing pieces for both residential and commercial projects, always made locally in Miami with a small team of women seamstresses, led by my main seamstress—my Mom—who has been a huge part of bringing the work to life.

While growing the business, I was also working through a long professional journey in architecture. I’ve spent years working in residential and commercial design, studying, and completing my exams, and I’m now a licensed Architect in Florida. That experience has really shaped how I approach my creative work—I’m very detail-oriented, design-driven, and focused on both function and aesthetics.

Today, I balance both worlds: running my pillow studio and continuing my work in architecture. Both paths are connected for me through design, materials, and the way people experience spaces.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most small businesses, there were a lot of challenges in the beginning—learning how to price my work properly, finding consistent clients, and figuring out how to scale production while still keeping everything handmade and high quality. There were also times when I had to balance very limited resources, manage production, and do everything from sourcing fabrics to coordinating projects while still working on my architecture career.

One of the biggest challenges was to balance both paths—growing my design business while also going through the long and demanding process of becoming a licensed architect. There were periods where I had to prioritize one over the other, and that meant slower growth at times in the business.

Another challenge has been maintaining consistency as demand grew, while still keeping the personal, handmade nature of the work. Working closely with a small team of seamstresses, has helped a lot, but it still requires a lot of coordination and adaptability.

Overall, those challenges really shaped how I work today. They forced me to become more structured, intentional, and resilient, and they strengthened both my business and my design practice.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Jaspid Studio sits at the intersection of architecture, interiors, and decor. I specialize in custom decorative pillows made for residential and commercial interiors, often working closely with designers to create pieces that feel tailored to a specific space. I’m known for using high-quality, often reclaimed designer fabrics and turning them into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that add warmth, texture, and character to interiors.

Everything is produced locally in Miami with a small team of women seamstresses, and my main seamstress is my Mom, which makes the work very personal and rooted in craft and family. That hands-on production process is something I’m very proud of because it keeps the quality high and every piece intentional.

What sets my work apart is the combination of design background and craft. As a licensed architect in Florida, I bring a very detail-oriented and spatial approach to everything I create. I think about proportion, materiality, and how objects live within a space—not just as decorative items, but as part of the overall design language of a room.

What I’m most proud of is building something that has grown organically from small beginnings into a business that collaborates with interior designers while still staying true to its handmade roots, sustainability focus, and family involvement.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
My small business grew organically in Miami and reflects my love for design, craftsmanship, and creating pieces with meaning.

Producing locally with a small team of women seamstresses, has been a very important part of the process and keeps the work grounded and hands-on.

As a licensed architect, I bring a strong focus on detail, proportion, and how objects live within a space, which influences everything I create.

More than anything, I’m proud of building something that stays true to quality, thoughtful design, and a very human, handmade approach.
