Check Out Dwight Thomas Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwight Thomas.

Hi Dwight, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I come from a large family. Being the second oldest of seven children and in a single-mother household, I would say I did not have much guidance. A lot of mistakes were made on my end I guess mostly from trying to figure out who I am, not only as a man but as a person in this world.

I’ve seen and I’ve experienced a lot. I believe the lifestyle that I grew up apart of detoured me to where I am now. I won’t get into much detail but I will say at 36 years old, I’ve experienced gang relations, arrests, abandonment, and living house to house. Never really having that peace of mind.

I spoke about figuring out who I am in this world. I think now as though I am not perfect I’m learning to do what inspires me, what makes me happy and see beyond what I see around me.

Who is Dwight Thomas? Dwight Thomas is passionate, he’s serious but knows how to enjoy himself at the moment, loves to volunteer, is a huge bookworm, a fashionista, a student of life, tries not to take himself too seriously, and loves to help others.

I started a consultant company called I am Dwight Thomas consulting. What we do is Security Consultant work where we’re the middle man between properties and security companies.

We help security companies get contracts and we help break down the strengths and weaknesses of properties to secure a safe environment. Also being Private Investigators we help anyone in need rather than conducting Background checks, skip tracing, Surveillance, interviews, etc.

My passion for my community and giving inspired me to incorporate and start a nonprofit organization in the middle of the pandemic. I’ve been feeding the homeless for well over a decade and I wanted to do more. There are a lot of outreach programs and organizations that do it already so I wanted to take it a step further.

Being a Private Investigator and having access to different databases I’ve decided to help to homeless community reunite with their families. We also feed, groom, and give clothes and hygiene products. Connecting with other organizations and being a part of my community is probably the best part of my day. Did I mention I’m a fashionista? Yes! I recently started a T-Shirt brand called “Intelligently Chilled”, which should be out by the time this article is released. This is my new product/ my baby lol. Intelligently chilled represents who I am. I’m that poetry muse/ spoken word lover, beach in the sand at night, documentary enthusiast, book a month, homebodies, wine sip lounge guy.

Most people would consider those people boring, depressing (I’ve been told), or not fun. I call it Intelligently Chilled. Anyone could be Intelligently Chilled and everyone has that Intelligently Chilled vibe. It’s whatever makes you Intelligently Chilled.

As I mentioned everyone is Intelligently Chilled. So the dopest thing about the Intelligently Chilled brand is I have created specialty T-shirts where 2% of each t-shirt sale will be donated to the organization/research group of my choice. So for example Breast Cancer awareness month is in October I have a nonprofit organization I will be donating to and helping with fundraising.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Oh God yes! It’s obstacles every single day. I think any entrepreneur will tell you they’re going through it, even millionaires. I get depressed, anxious, and exhausted both mentally and physically.

For me a lot of it is mental I’m sure being in my own head but I’m taking it day by day. If I have any struggle it’s time. Time is my biggest deal.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a Private Investigator for almost 10 years and I’ve been in the security field for about 12 years.

I decided to combine both as a business because most of my work experience is in both and I love what I do. When it comes to security and working for others you have to stick to their regimen and I wanted to create my own.

I’ve always been the type to go to a property and break down their weaknesses in my mind and know exactly the things to focus on the most at a property even when they tell me what they think is the problem. I think my street smarts have a lot to do with it as well.

As far as the private investigation side of things it’s a little more technical. So a little backstory. When I was a kid, I wanted to be an Undercover police officer, lol. Too much television I guess because I loved to see those guys in regular clothing, nice shoes, and a nice chain with their badge on it. That Bad Boys Martin and Will look. That idea could only be a dream because I was a street kid.

Well back to the point… being a private investigator allows me to keep the form of investigating and being undercover without arresting or a badge. What set me apart from others I would say is my third eye, my compassion, and both my street and book smarts.

It’s no mistake I specialize in Surveillance, background checks, and interrogations. I have that edge about myself. The tattoos, the nice dress, my charisma, and the way I carry myself. With all I’ve had to overcome in my life, I would say I’m most proud of my ability to stay true to myself and to continue to keep going.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Being an entrepreneur is extremely hard. Make sure you keep great people around you. Build a great team. Strangers will be your biggest supporters, not your family.

Only do what you can. Focus on being productive and not busy. Take a mental break, you’re allowed to be human. Being a psychology major in the past life I use that to my advantage.

I talk to myself, I break down my own weaknesses and uplift my strengths. I even take a moment to cry it out (only about 5 minutes though). It feels good because after you do that your gangsta side comes out and asks you why are you crying lol.

All jokes aside the number one thing I wish I knew is to not wait for anyone. If you have a vision go ahead and start it. The person or people that are supposed to be there with you will find their way to you.
