Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Chemics.
Hi DJ, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
DJ Chemics embarked on his musical journey during his formative years, captivated by the vibrant Dancehall/Reggae/Hip-Hop culture. It all began when he seized the opportunity to DJ his first paid gig at his grade school, sparking a fiery passion within him. Eager to refine his skills, he wasted no time in acquiring his very own sound system. From lively backyard parties to unforgettable sweet sixteens, he honed his craft, specializing in Top 40, Pop, and Hip-Hop/Rap.
Inspired by revered legends like DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Kurt Riley, Tiesto, and David Guetta, Chemics dedicated countless hours to practice, yearning for the chance to electrify nightclubs and festivals across the globe. With diligent work and earnings from part-time jobs and gigs, he invested in a cutting-edge digital vinyl setup, comprising of two Technics SL-1200MK2 turntables and a Rane TTM-57SL mixer. Unleashing his undeniable talent on the decks, Chemics swiftly became a dominant force, securing prestigious gigs at some of Kingston, Jamaica’s hottest nightlife spots. But his ambitions didn’t stop there.
The next chapter saw Chemics venture into the realm of mobile DJing, establishing his own business that catered to private events, corporate functions, and weddings. This endeavor introduced him to the art of seamlessly blending multiple genres, effortlessly catering to audiences of diverse ages and tastes. From Motown and Funk to Disco, 80s hits, Old School, Classic Rock, Reggae, Ska, and Rocksteady, he mastered the art of keeping any crowd entertained.
Continuing his upward trajectory, Chemics joined forces with Brand New Machine – Sean Paul’s Management Team, spearheading weekly EDM/House events at the renowned Fiction Night Club in Kingston. It was here that he encountered a new love: electronic dance music. Immersed in the pulsating beats of electro and dirty dutch house music, he discovered the electrifying energy and infectious party atmosphere they could create on the dance floor. His dynamic and diverse sets garnered widespread acclaim, amplifying his fan base and exposing him to prime opportunities.
Soon, DJ Chemics found himself headlining at the hottest bars and clubs in Kingston, including Quad Night Club, Ribbiz Ultra Lounge, and Club Noir (Moon Place Jamaica). Eventually, he embarked on a new chapter, leaving his mark on the vibrant nightlife scenes of New York and Florida. In no time, he garnered significant influence in the area, leading him to relaunch his Mobile DJ Company and leave an indelible impact on the local music scene. Sharing stages with esteemed artists such as Sean Paul, RDX, Major Lazer, DJ Snake, Machel Mantano, Shaggy, and Brick & Lace, he solidified his status as a true musical powerhouse.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a DJ hasn’t been an easy journey. In my early days, I faced significant challenges getting noticed and making a name for myself. I had to take on numerous free and underpaid gigs, but eventually, my hard work paid off.
I quickly had to learn the business side of DJing, such as collecting deposits before gigs, drafting contracts, and obtaining DJ insurance for my business.
Balancing DJing with producing my own music, creating my independent music label, and releasing tracks was another hurdle.
One of the current challenges I face is maintaining consistency on social media. With so many platforms and their ever-changing algorithms, being a content creator has become an essential part of the job.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a DJ and producer originally from Jamaica, known for bringing high energy, clean transitions, and crowd focused sets that keep people engaged from start to finish. I specialize in open format DJing, blending genres like Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop, Afrobeats, House, Soca, R&B, and Top 40 to fit the vibe of any event.
Over the years I’ve performed at weddings, private events, clubs, corporate functions, and community events, always focusing on reading the crowd and creating memorable experiences through music.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand that people trust. A lot of my opportunities come through referrals and repeat clients because I take professionalism seriously, show up prepared, and genuinely care about making every event successful.
What sets me apart is my versatility, my Caribbean influence, and my ability to connect with different audiences. I don’t just press play, I create an atmosphere. Whether it’s an elegant wedding, a packed dancefloor, or a laid back vibe, I know how to adapt and deliver the right energy for the moment.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
A big part of my journey has been the support of the people around me. My family and close friends have always encouraged me to keep pushing, especially during the early stages when I was building my name and trying to grow my brand. Their belief in me kept me motivated through every challenge.
I’ve also had support from fellow DJs, promoters, event planners, and creatives who gave me opportunities to perform, collaborate, and grow my network. Working alongside other talented people in the industry has helped me sharpen my skills, learn how to adapt in different environments, and better understand the business side of entertainment.
My clients deserve a lot of credit as well. Every booking, referral, repost, and recommendation has helped my business grow organically. A lot of my success has come from repeat clients and word of mouth, and that means a lot to me because it shows the experience I provide leaves a lasting impression.
I’m especially grateful for the people who trusted me before the brand became established. Those early supporters helped create the foundation for everything I’m building today.
