Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Forges.
Hi Darryl, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from the University of West Georgia and worked in Montgomery, Alabama for the ABC/CBS affiliate. After working there for two years I moved on to Miami, Florida and worked for NBC 6 WTVJ for three years. I later moved back to Atlanta where I served as a National Correspondent for CNN. While working there I traveled across the country, covering numerous stories including The White House for both the Biden and Trump Administrations, the 2020 Election, California Wildfires, the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, and the George Floyd Protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
After a few years of covering groundbreaking and historic moments at CNN, I moved to New Orleans where I’m currently the morning anchor for WDSU.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s truly been a challenge. When I graduated, I applied to over 30 news stations, and they all said no. One news director told me I would never make it in the industry. It was tough, but thanks to one of my former classmates who recommended me to her news director in Alabama. Once he offered me the job the rest was history.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Morning Anchor for WDSU News in New Orleans. On a daily basis I’m the alarm clock for viewers getting ready for work, or even getting their kids ready for school. My main goal is to make sure viewers feel informed, and ready for the day before they head out the door.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up I watched black men like T.J. Holmes, Don Lemon, Tony Harris, Fred Blankenship, DeMarco Morgan deliver the news, and I thought it was pretty cool seeing men who looked like me, dressed in the best suits, and swag deliver and inform the community. That’s where my curiosity for journalism was born.
