Today we’d like to introduce you to Danittza Zimic.
Hi Danittza, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started after the economic real estate crisis of 2008. I had been in real estate for 20 years in Hawaii and San Francisco, grew up in Miami so I came back to my home. Originally born in Peru I had been here since I was ten. After the market sunk, I reinvented myself, as a little girl I remember I would design on my free time. I always had a passion for fashion, creating looks, mixing and matching fabrics.
So I registered myself in the Arts Institute to study fashion design. I still remember what my first design looked like. I made 212 dresses from the only money left I had at the time, $1200. I went knocking door by door to show the world my designs. Originally sold it to friends then clients and then boutiques, 200 + boutiques worldwide and counting. The fulfillment it brings when doing what you love has more value than anything for me. Seeing my designs being wore by artists and in magazines. Your creations, your ideas made reality and having a palpable garment still to this day gives me butterflies.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fashion is anything less than smooth. It took me a long time and a lot of trial and error to be where I am today. Nothing has ever been handed to me, there has been a lot of swear and tears over the last years and specially and the beginning. I would say it’s one of the toughest industries to get into. But if you believe in yourself and are not willing to take no for an answer, you will reach your dreams. It is one of the most important advice I could give to my younger self.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I bring versatility and options when it comes to fashion. My prints are bold and unapologetic. To me, it’s more sexy to show a back than a cleavage. I accentuated Women’s bodies by enhancing the most stunning features. I always create with that in mind rarely following trends and choosing my own fabrics with easy fit I feel has made me successful.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love our city, I love the beach. It’s my nirvana, I can reconnect with myself after having a hectic market. I find peace and tranquility, harmony in its air. This for me is home and I love being able to feel alive in such a beautiful city. It’s my happy place, my Miami!
