Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Myers.
Hi Daniela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In July of 2020, my time in Orlando attending UCF was cut short due to Covid-19. I was forced to move back home 1 year short of graduating and began taking classes online. Having not planned on moving, I was feeling a bit lost and decided to join a gym to create a healthy routine. I took advantage of a 2-week intro offer at Sensory Fitness, however, 2 classes into my trial, I fractured my foot and yet again was forced to stay home.
After almost an entire month of being back in Miami, I realized Covid was not going anywhere, and going back to Orlando to finish school was not going to be possible. I decided it was time to get a part-time job as I was still a full-time student but needed to get out of the house. After searching around on Indeed, a front desk position at Sensory came across my screen. I applied and received a call the next day from the current front desk, who I had met during my short trial period. I was invited in for an interview and very honestly explained that I was looking for a part-time position but had every intention of moving back to Orlando the next summer when Covid cleared up. The owners Enrique and Guillermo offered me the position and I began the following week.
The position began as a very basic front desk job where I could continue my online schooling and interact with members which was a blessing after having spent the last few months stuck in the house. The gym was still in full Covid mode with masks enforced, temperatures being taken at the door, and disinfecting solutions being sprayed in between each class. It was such a strange experience but the members and other staff made the best of the situation and it was truly a blessing to be in an environment that was so positive and light-hearted in the midst of such a dark situation in the world. A few months passed, and with every month, Covid began to settle and members began to come back to in-person gyms.
The longer I stayed at Sensory, the more I connected with the members, owners, and instructors. As summer approached, Enrique asked if I still planned on going back to Orlando. I decided to push my move back to fall to allow myself some time to plan the move. Little did I know, summer flew by and I found myself pushing my move back a bit more. The more I pushed the move, the more I realized I might not want to leave. I had to ask myself if not going back to Orlando and making Sensory a more permanent home was something that I would want to do. It was the easiest decision I think I’ve ever made. I excitingly shared my decision with Enrique and we got to work. 1 year into being at Sensory, our sister company Rehab Lab began to flourish. We were operating two businesses with more staff, members, and patients than ever.
Slowly but surely, I began to build a front desk team made up of young ladies I am so blessed to work with. 3 years later I am the Studio Manager of Sensory Fitness, Rehab Lab Miami, and our newest addition Rehab Lab Davie. We have a 3-person front desk team. 8 person Pilates team, 5 person Sweat team, and 6 person Rehab Lab team. We have around 3,500 monthly visits from members every month and more classes are being offered every week than ever. Every day I come into work not knowing what the day is going to consist of which keeps me on my toes. What was the easiest decision for me to make has grown into something I would have never imagined.
It has been an absolute pleasure growing up alongside Sensory Fitness, the team, and the members who have been able to watch me progress to the position in which I find myself today. I could never thank Enrique and Guillermo more for giving me a part-time front desk position back in 2020.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
What I struggled with the most was the unknown of whether Covid was going to clear up or stay around. My life was hanging in a middle ground between not wanting to make Sensory a permanent position because I believed I was going back to Orlando.
It seemed like my life was on hold and I was not able to give 100% to either part until I finally decided to stay at Sensory full-time. It ended up working out perfectly because it seemed that as soon as I made that decision Sensory and Rehab Lab both flourished
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My job title is Studio Manager of Sensory Fitness, Rehab Lab Miami, and Rehab Lab Davie. My job description seems to vary on an hourly basis. I oversee daily operations such as staff scheduling, escalated member issues, gym equipment quality, patient scheduling for Rehab Lab, insurance verifications for Physical Therapy, and more. I take care of all apparel including clothing, Pilates socks, etc.
I coordinate with our marketing team for staff and member video shoots as well as with our photographer for up-to-date content for classes and staff. I do not specialize in any 1 thing and I think that is what sets me apart because I thrive in overwhelming situations. I am organized and efficient in my time management and ability to multitask between 3 different locations, all of which have their own needs. I am most proud of the front desk team I have created which includes our Assistant Studio Manager Claudia Pages, as well as Sophia Fernandez and Joselyn Arana. I truly would not be able to do as much as I do now without these ladies.
Currently, I was able to take part in the buildout of our newest location, Rehab Lab Davie. This included taking part in the architectural design of the buildout as well as overseeing the construction alongside Enrique and the GC. We stocked the space with brand-new, state-of-the-art equipment and designed the space to feel invigorating yet calm and inviting. I think I thrive in this position because it allows me to do a little bit of everything that I love, and I find excitement every day.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I am old school, I write everything down on paper.
My agenda is my lifeline. Without that, I would have no idea where I should be or what I should be doing daily. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than physically crossing off a task from your to-do list at the end of the day.
