Check Out Christina Bulnes’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Bulnes

Hi Christina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Back in the long, forgotten about days of Tumblr, I started my personal blog, Needles and Nylon, to act nearly as a love letter to fashion, streetwear, traveling, and my other areas of interest. For over a decade, I’ve stayed dedicated, not only to that name, but to sharing that love with friends and followers alike. My husband, Izzy, and I have now a co-ed Instagram page that we rung together, as well as giving a peek into our day-to-day through Stories.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With pushing a dream and putting yourself forward, the road is never smooth. With learning new algorithms, new social media platforms emerging, and a new pandemic that hit the world in 2020, getting back on track with the things you love most was a struggle. However, it was always important to us to remind each other that we didn’t want to stray away from creating content and setting scheduled and dedicated time aside for that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
While I’ve held many different careers in the luxury retail world, I currently work on the Management team for The RealReal in Palm Beach on historic Worth Avenue. While content creation and fashion are my great loves, being in this profession has not only opened my eyes to a different, luxury world, but I have a new appreciation of the professionals who dedicate brain space to authenticating pieces. The wealth of fashion knowledge, history, and detail I have absorbed and continue to learn from our team is irreplaceable.

The market has become, rightfully, oversaturated with creatives that yearn to make a name for themselves. What sets us apart from the pack is the choices we make in how we want to, not only tell our story through styling, but tell the brands store and history. Whether it’s a legacy, luxury house or an emerging designer, we choose very intentionally how and who we want to push forward along with our vision.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Through our platforms, we not only talk about style, but deeper issues having to do with mental health. I suffer from both panic disorder and agoraphobia, so it’s a genetic cocktail that doesn’t make a risk-taker. Luckily for me, my husband is never afraid of taking risk, even if the margins for success are slim. He has the optimistic belief that, even if failure is a byproduct of taking risk, the knowledge you gain from it is indispensable. Being his life partner comes with immeasurable reward, but I’ve pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and have taken risk because of lessons I’ve learned from. Creating relationships with creatives overseas, outreach to brands for partnerships, even stepping into more sex-positive content creation have been risks I’ve taken that I never could have fathomed taking a few years ago. Put yourself out there, take the risks, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes and be kind to yourself about those mistakes. There’s more to gain in risk thank there is to lose in resistance.
