Check Out Cecilia Moscoso’s Story

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Moscoso.

Cecilia Moscoso

Hi Cecilia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Psychology has always been my passion; as a teenager, I saw my mother’s transformation from being always there for others but herself to becoming a version where she finally had a voice and cared for herself. During high school, she introduced me to great coaches and therapists, such as Louise Hay and Deepak Chopra. Despite not completely grasping all their ideas, I knew there was a journey for me to walk through.

After getting my bachelor’s in Psychology, I worked for many years as a case manager, working with many low-income families to find resources in the community. During these years, I discovered the power of community. While studying and after getting my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, I worked as a counselor in two great community mental health centers where I worked mainly with minority groups. In one of them, I provided individual therapy but also ran groups on different topics, such as self-esteem, assertiveness, Stress management, and others. During these years, I saw many lives changing positively, indicating that I was on the right path.

In 2020, amidst the COVID pandemic, I had to go through my divorce, which is one of the most painful experiences I have had in my life. I learned that sometimes, it doesn’t matter how much effort you put in; occasionally, things are not meant to be. Staying in my marriage would have meant not living the life I wanted and not pursuing my dreams. I had to let go of a beautiful person with whom I had just grown apart. During these years I have learned to stay truthful to myself, and I have discovered many things about myself.

In 2022, after having many people around me supporting me and giving me strength, I decided to open my private practice – Connecting with Your Essence. During this time, I have accompanied many people to live their lives more fully. My focus nowadays is on working with people who suffer from anxiety due to changes in their lives, as well as helping people live a more fulfilling life, with less people-pleasing behaviors but with more love and faithfulness to themselves. At the end of 2023, a new therapist joined the practice, and now we are looking forward to continue expanding.

My time is spent running our practice and developing a new program that I plan to Launch in Fall 2024 – Living with Authenticity. It is aimed at people who want to learn to regulate their emotions and, at the same time, work on their boundaries and communication skills.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I didn’t imagine all the hats I had to wear, doing administrative work, answering phone calls, conducting therapy, billing, and managing social media. It’s like being the conductor of the orchestra and playing the instruments at the same time.

I have learned a lot about myself, how to manage my time better, and how to implement my self-boundaries. My mantra is to: “Trust in the process,” when I have felt overwhelmed, I remind myself that sometimes things are meant to be different than I expect, and it’s okay.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Connecting with Your Essence specializes in providing therapy for individuals dealing with anxiety, particularly those facing challenges in their relationships due to struggles with emotional regulation and effective communication with loved ones.

Our therapy sessions teach clients healthier ways to interact with others and help them address and shift negative beliefs. Often, we assist clients in processing past experiences that have contributed to these harmful self-perceptions. When you choose therapy with us, you’ll encounter caring professionals who guide you through your healing and personal growth journey.

Our services cater to individuals aged 18 and older. We work with insurance, but the new team member offers a sliding fee scale to make therapy more accessible to those in need.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
I think that the stigma of receiving mental health services will mostly disappear, especially in minority groups. I believe that due to the new generations being more aware of the impact that mental health has on our lives, people will be more willing to go to therapy.

The mind-and-body connection between mental and physical health is becoming increasingly recognized. Future approaches to psychology may involve a more integrated understanding of mind-body interactions and the role of factors such as nutrition and the role of hormones.
