Check Out Brett Fitzpatrick’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Fitzpatrick.

Hi Brett, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started making music because I wanted to make a difference and I got tired of hearing music talking about drugs, pills, and sex. I wanted to make the music I needed to hear when I went through dark times.

There are a lot of artists whose music has saved people when they were just trying to get things out of their heads and I want to know how many people I can help if going into this if that’s my goal. MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE is not the first band I started or have been in, but it is the culmination of this desire to make music and save lives.

The road has not been easy, between personal tragedies, peer criticism, day jobs holding back our time and so much more. It was all worth it knowing that my lyrics have helped people, and getting to experience the feeling of having them sung back at me.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been an easy or smooth road. We have had setbacks from day jobs, as well as unemployment. We have gone through death and betrayal. Everyone in any startup receives a lot of pushback and hate, and we are no different on that front.

When you follow your dreams your circle shrinks a lot. I had people close to me or that I worked in the field tell me that my music would never amount to anything or get anywhere when I started. I have had colleagues tell me outright that they hate my music and tried to steer me in a direction they would have personally preferred.

There were people in my life who outright refused to even listen to my music. It’s not easy to go through all of this, it’s a horrible feeling especially when there are tragedies taking place.

We receive a lot of love and support from those who have stuck close and we have gotten a lot of love and admiration from those who found us and became fans. It’s not all bad, the reward of knowing our music helps people makes all of the hardships worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are musicians and are the two members of MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE.

We are an indie alternative/grunge band. We are entirely self-produced, and in April put out our first album called //SELF-TITLED//. On this album, we have reached half a million streams across all platforms. We make music with the intention of saving people and helping them through dark times.

I put my emotions, struggles, and heartbreak on display in hopes of it bringing the comfort that my favorite artists brought me to someone else.

How do you define success?
It’s not really about success for us, it’s about helping others and leaving something behind that will outlast me.

Maybe success for me would be making enough income from this that it funds all the pursuits I have with the band and I can keep moving forward with this goal.
