Check Out Ariana Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Jones.

Hi Ariana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I can remember exactly how old I was when I discovered KPOP and subsequently fell in love with KPOP dance. Ever since middle school, I’ve had the goal of joining a KPOP dance cover group. Like many others in my club, I discovered Next In Action through Florida Atlantic University’s involvement fair, and from then on I knew where I wanted to be. I committed myself straight from the jump through my auditions and my first semester on the team. By my second semester, I had the opportunity to run for Next In Action’s executive board. This decision, although it came with many challenges, completely transformed my experience in the org. Within NIA’s E-board, I had the chance to contribute to the club and really make a change for NIA to really establish ourselves. As I moved up in position from Treasurer to Vice President, and ultimately becoming president, Next In Action has only grown stronger and stronger, and I can not be more proud to be a part of this beautiful community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, in my almost four years being a part of Next In Action, I have learned one moral that is unfortunately unavoidable: You can not please everyone, and not everyone will be happy with your decisions. No matter how much I put my time and heart into appeasing as many people in or even outside of this organization, there could never be a one-size-fits-all solution to so many ordeals. There has been a many of times when I, despite my personal preference, had to hear out every side or play devil’s advocate to come to solutions that would benefit NIA as a whole rather than one or a select group of people. Even if people aren’t satisfied with a decision, I can at least know I weighed out as many options as I could while considering as much of people’s input as I could when coming to a resolution.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My passion will always be music and expressing my through it! From being a part of a KPOP performance, creating my own mixes, to having my input in camerawork or editing our productions, I love every part of being in a cover group and having avenues to play around with choreography or various other visual details to create something in my vision always reignites my love of dancing!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Honestly, when it comes to taking risks, I like to play it safe. I know for many people, the fast, risky approach becomes their key to success; however, I like to carefully weigh options if I am in a position to do so, or embrace the motto, “slow and steady wins the race. However, with being a leader, there is always a risk when relying on others. You have to have trust in the people around you to ensure things get done, and the cogs in our community machine run smoothly. The risk of relying on someone can yield mind-blowing results to a project one can only dream of, or to disappointment. It is worth taking those risks because when the highs are high, the lows don’t seem to matter as much.
