Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Oelke
Hi Anne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Anne Oelke, I am a furniture designer, I’ve been worked as a designer for 20 years. I worked for big companies in Brazil and since december of the last year I’ve been lived in Downtown Miami.
Unfortunatelly I lost my husband for a severe brain cancer in the last year. So I came to Miami to refresh my mind and to spend a time with our little 3 years old daughter.
I intend to explore different places and to enrich culturally visiting different cities.
I work in home office, I have my own company focused in spread knowlodge about 3D interior design projects. I sell online courses that help many people in theirs business.
I also work as designer, planning big stores in Brazil. I have a good community in social midia, as you can see in Instagram, called @marcenariaforadacaixa. It means something like wood workers outside the box. That I incentive people to think beyond the edge.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I believe that a life without struggles is a life without growth.
I always have many challenges in my way.
One huge struggle I lived was when my daughter borned before the time, with only 3 lbs. Very fragile and small.
We spent 36 days in the hospital until she be able to have a normal life.
No doubts my faith and resilience was tested.
Other big stryggle was when my ex husband had his cancer diagnosis. He had a severe tumor in his brain when He was only 39 years old. I supported him every day during his treatment. Unfortunatelly appeared a new tumor after one year. Three days after a succesfull surgery, he had a strok, causing many sequelaes.
He stayed in the hospital for 45 days, 10 days in a coma. When he woke up, he wasn’t able to speak, to walk, to eat normally and nor to breathe without tracheostomy.
So, our lives changed a lot. He went home and I used to take care of him in every second I could, with the help of nurses, 24 hours per day. I gave him baths, I changed diapers, I made his food and gave food in his mouth. Everything was ok, when suddenly one day he felt very ill and was hospitalized. Unfortunatelly he did not come back home.
I found strenght in Christ and in my child. So, I decided to change my life and to move to Miami. And now, here I am, plenty of new dreams and new projects of work and life.
