Check Out Anna Lucia Peña’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Lucia Peña

Hi Anna Lucia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Colombia, where I discovered my passion for interior design and the desire to help others from a young age. For me, creativity has always been a way to find purpose in life.

Six years ago, I founded my own company in Colombia, driven by a vision to design kitchens and spaces that prioritize comfort and functionality for everyone. During my life, I felt a strong connection to nature, animals, and humanity, which inspired me to create inclusive designs. One of my most meaningful projects was focused on creating spaces for blind individuals, and I also participated in research groups in Medellín to develop a kitchen prototype for people who use wheelchairs.

I moved to the United States and began building my business here. I specialize in kitchen design, but my true passion lies in being a “dream maker.” I aim to create purposeful designs rather than simply luxurious ones. My brand, Cataleia, is inspired by a flower, symbolizing my belief that creativity flourishes when we focus on what truly matters, just like a delicate flower.

Thank you for allowing me to share my story! I’m excited about the opportunity to connect and create meaningful spaces

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but each challenge has been a valuable learning experience. Relocating to the United States brought new challenges. Adapting to a different market and understanding local preferences required time and effort. I also faced the typical struggles of establishing a new business, like managing finances and marketing effectively.

However, these challenges have only strengthened my resolve and creativity. They’ve pushed me to innovate and adapt, ultimately helping me to grow both personally and professionally. I’ve learned that perseverance and staying true to my mission of creating purposeful designs can help overcome obstacles.

I’m grateful for the journey and the opportunities it has brought me to connect with others and make a positive impact through my work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in creating functional and inclusive spaces, particularly in kitchen design. What sets me apart is my belief that design should have a purpose beyond aesthetics. While many designers focus on visual appeal, I prioritize meaningful design that enhances lives and fosters connections.

I’m passionate about researching sustainable materials that benefit the environment, and I strive to change the perspective on interior design. I believe that our profession can transform society by aligning creativity with a purpose. By creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and accessible, I aim to make a positive impact on individuals and communities.

One of my proudest accomplishments is my work on accessible kitchen prototypes for individuals with mobility challenges. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how my designs can empower and improve the quality of life for others.

Ultimately, I’m driven by the idea that design is a powerful tool for social change. I’m excited to continue exploring innovative solutions that connect my profession with my purpose.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
here are several ways people can work with or support me. First and foremost, if you know anyone in need of accessible spaces—whether in homes, businesses, or community areas—sharing my work with them would be incredibly helpful. I’m always eager to connect with individuals or organizations that could benefit from my expertise.

Additionally, I welcome support for research initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity in our city. Collaborating with research groups or community organizations can help us gather the necessary insights and resources to make our designs more effective and impactful.
