Check Out Andrades Kennel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrades Kennel.

Hello Andrades Kennel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
The Andrades Kennel project undoubtedly represents a very particular story that would mark a before and after of the American Bully breed, our first steps were set 18 years ago, the time in which we started it focusing on the American Bully standard XL and in the Blue pigmentation, being a success and achieving the recognition that has allowed us to share the breeding and export specimens of our bloodline to practically every corner of the world.

Since our beginnings, the objective has been very clear, to breed healthy and 100% functional dogs of XL and pocket size, with very specific characteristics (intelligent, noble, strong, agile, and with an ideal temperament both for the family and for caring for the owner at home). At Andrades Kennel, we take care of and love our dogs as they are part of our family. Love is essential for the education of any pet, and we are against animal abuse of any kind.

Fourteen years ago, we started the pocket project, but the results were not as expected, for which we gave up and focused 100% on the XL, but that little thorn stuck in us and 5 years ago we decided to take up the pocket issue again since for a long time we had the intention of looking for a small-sized American Bully that was similar to the XL, but on this occasion, we carried it out with 100% specimens from our line, based on the shorter-sized dogs, and thus, over the years, gradually reducing the size until we achieved functional pockets as we had imagined long ago.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the very particular case of Merle, it was even more difficult, to be the first worldwide to promote and export it, for which we were severely criticized, but time proved us right and what started as something without much sense, today is became an entire movement worldwide and not only in our breed, the American Bully but practically in all of them, seeing the merle gene being accepted and valued, we feel full of pride and satisfaction, even more for having been the pioneers in the race and on the move.

It seems easy, but the acceptance of the merle as well as getting the functional Pockets and in general the breeding of the American Bully, has been a very complex task, full of challenges and that translates into many years of work, but all the success and acceptance. What we have achieved worldwide has been achieved thanks to the effort, dedication, and perseverance of our team (Andrades Kennel), as well as the mastermind of our founders Juan Andrade, better known as the king of the merles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are known worldwide because we were the forerunners and initiators of the Merle gene in the American Bully.

The merle gene in dogs was frowned upon until we worked on it 13 years ago and showed that it was only an unknown pigmentation, but following a good breeding plan it could be used and valued as any shade. The above led us to worldwide recognition and putting the name of our kennel high.

How do you define success?
The beginning was extremely difficult since everything related to the merle theme was taboo but time proved us right and what at the beginning was an obstacle later became what prompted us to become known worldwide.
