Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Camila Monroy.

Maria Camila, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Ever since I was very young I knew I always wanted to be an artist, I found peace in art as a whole. I doodled all over my notebooks, and occasionally made signs for people as a favor. It wasn’t until one random day that I realized I could take my talents and make it my profession. I grew very frustrated in the career I was in at the moment and decided to do what made me happy, Maca Art & Designs came to life that day.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a modern calligraphy artist, I create wall art, signs, invitations, props, canvases, anything! I like to say “whatever I can write on, I will, and if I can’t, I’ll find a way”. My calligraphy is very unique, one canvas will never look like the next, it all comes to me once I start. Although many may think, “it’s just writing”, I view it as something that inspires people every day, just one simple canvas with the right quote can make a house, it can make someone joyful and inspired. To me, art is transformative.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Many people don’t believe art is a true career, but someone once gave me the quote “let your passion become your profession and you will never work a day in your life”. Why waste your time doing something you don’t like? Don’t let anyone tell you what you do isn’t worth it, a true artist sees the worth in their work. Time, dedication and passion never goes unnoticed. Your art matters!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Since I do custom work, I handle an Instagram where people can DM me and order their work. In my Instagram, @macaartdesigns, people can see some of the work I’ve done for weddings, birthdays, houses, or just small regular things. Small local businesses like mine give me joy in knowing people are still out here using their creativity and talents.
