We recently had the chance to connect with Cara DeBellis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cara, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day typically consists of taking my pups out, feeding them, editing any images that need editing, and feeding the pups :).
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My company name is Love Photography by Cara Inc. it was chosen 15 years ago because I truly love photography. I photograph mostly family, maternity, newborn, and birthdays. I also do events and weddings occasionally. If you could only see what we do with your own eyes, you’d be amazed. We bring out the best smiles and make everyone comfortable to be their best self during the session.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Many won’t agree and that’s okay, but as a child I was always taught to believe you have to go to college and get a degree to make something of yourself. I’m thankful I found a passion and never gave up. If you find something that you love to do and can make money doing it, that’s the most rewarding life to give yourself. Doing what you love and being able to make a living doing it.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that you have to get through it to get over it. Everything happens for a reason and when you suffer, you find a new route to relief. You find new ways and opportunities you never had before. Every door closed, opens a new path to success.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lies photography tells is to be perfect. People want wrinkles removed, bodies slimmed, and more. Many people request editing to cover up their insecurities. I personally find that to be lies and inauthentic.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when my loved ones around me are happy. A lot of what I do is pleasing people and making them happy. I love so much to make those around me feel good and smile. It sounds silly but I am full of love and just want to share it around. Being fair and bringing peace.
