Art & Life with Vonzell Solomon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vonzell Solomon.

Vonzell, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am the youngest of four children hence my nickname BabyV. I was born in Baxley Georgia raised in Fort Myers Florida. I’ve studied martial arts since the age of five under my father Master Larry Goethie, and I am a 3rd-degree black belt. I also grew up in private vocal lessons under Mrs. Bernadette Billups at the Oxford school of music where I study classical and opera music. I attended Cypress lake high school Center for the arts apart of the vocal department. After high school, I became a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service and sang regularly at restaurants and local clubs. I also wrote, recorded and released my first EP. Everyone was suggesting that I try out for American Idol, so I did! The first time I auditioned I didn’t make it past the first round, heartbroken I decided that I would never go back and audition again. After some motivation from my family and friends especially my father, I decided to try out again, and I made it to top three out of over 100,000 contestants.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a singer-songwriter and Producer. I bring stories to life through music as well as assisting others in doing the same. My inspiration is life itself and spreading the love. I hope people can be uplifted and inspired by my work.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I define success as staying true to your personal goals in life and working hard to achieve them, no matter what society says your life should be and look like. I feel whats essential to the success of an artist is to be firmly planted in your beliefs, goals and the person that you want to be. That way you’re not easily persuaded into being someone you don’t want to be or doing things that you don’t really want to do. If it goes against your immutable moral code you just simply shouldn’t do it, no matter what materialistic things you’ll receive. You have to think about the entire picture- you could very well be miserable outside of the monetary gain(s).

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
