Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura “Lali” Mora.
Lali, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I go by the name Lali, LVLI is my brand and this is how it all started. Visits to the optometrist were weekly routines for me; I always knew my eyesight wasn’t the best but my vision was always clear, In grade school my teachers found my artwork to be impressive and without realizing it at the time, kids in my age group didn’t understand the concept of dimensional shading, gradients, lines, or texture. I still remember the book cover I recreated in 4th grade that made just about every teacher come out to see it; I made my mom really proud. Being very curious about my ability to recreate work I would draw out animals, shapes, houses, people and landscapes, then tell my family to try to imitate me, and they really couldn’t do it. Aside from mandatory classes in grade school, I was never actually in an art class. Around 7th grade, I switched my art class elective in for drama class to rid myself of a public speaking fear. So, in high school, the opportunity to join art club during school lunches was my biggest interest. I went from taking Drawing 1 to being placed in Advanced College Portfolio with the other super talented kids. It came naturally to me, every stroke and every new medium was done passionately. For a while, I dealt with not wanting to be the “starving artist” Learning that when things are done effortlessly and fearlessly, they become fulfilling works of art. Fear makes you hesitant, and reluctant. Fluent and flowing movements create affluence. Chasing my passion lead me to leave the corporate world behind and keeping the trade skills to run my own business. LVLI stands for love, values, luxury, intention. Principles that I choose to live by and nouns that could describe the way I feel about my art. Now I dedicate most of my time to making textile art for other artist and art lovers.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Creating for over 2o years allowed me to try many different mediums. These days I stick to my three favorite mediums; Acrylic on Canvas/Denim Apparel and Graphic Designs. My aesthetic is mainly portraits, depictions of the cosmos, symmetry, love and unity. My denim jackets and custom shoes are the most popular at the moment. I make it a point to really understand the person I am making custom textile work for. If you have music, a logo, a brand, a personality trait, or a passion, then I want to know and I want to listen and see it for myself. Then, and only then will I create a jacket with words, symbols, abstract shapes and full detailed portraits of faces, and expressions to really incorporate L.V.L.I and the person I am making it for. I want people to really love what they see but also to resonate with it on another level. Mother Nature and the Cosmos along with mathematics inspire me the most. I hope that people can see the meaning of L.V.L.I in everything that I create. Love, because you’ll see that I spend time doing what I love to do meanwhile bringing what you’re passionate about to life. Value because I am using my talent to create a unique piece of work and adding value to the original. I am also receiving your talents as inspiration for now and a potential client for later. Luxury because quality will always come before quantity. Intentions because with every action comes an intent and we will continue to create art together for a long time with all the right intentions of growing, becoming unified and spreading love.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Personally being an artist means loving to be alone and pursuing what you love and those of similar interest will come to find you. I actually found events listings online to find art gallery receptions, open mics and festivals to network with other artists. Once you meet people there, you can build from that in your local area. Make sure to follow and support other artists to get that energy reciprocated!
