Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Norman.
Kristen, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a self-taught artist. Since I was a child, I have been expressing myself through doodles, painting, and collage. In 2016, I was introduced to street art through a documentary titled “Exit through the Gift Shop.” I developed a fascination for street art and the message the art delivered. So, I tried it, I made my first stencil of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and realized that I had found my medium. Since then, I have created hundreds of stencils. My work is an expression of my interpretation of life as it unfolds. It is a channel for me to express frustration, hope, and humor.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
What I hope people take away from my art is a sense of curiosity. I hope people contemplate their own actions in the world and what the piece means to them. I am inspired by current events, and my work is a reflection of what is happening in our world. For example, one of my favorite pieces is titled “Denial,” and is an image of a small boy staring hard, but at the same time he is not a whole boy but is softly fragmenting, I created this piece because many of us live in denial, we live our whole lives in a self-centered delusion, denial keeps us in delusion but no matter how hard we try to deny what is happening around us, it is still there staring directly at us.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
