Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Jones Jr.
Jesse, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
A unique story that happen to me on my first real jazz gig right out of high school back in the 60’s. After I finished my solo on “Just Friends”, I open my eyes and it was one of my favorite trumpet players playing next to me, Blue Mitchell who was also from Miami, Florida. It was my first time playing with a top professional jazz musician. Man, I took in so much in one night just playing and talking with him.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m the type of a musician that loves to create, like a painter with a brush. It’s like I tell some of the young and upcoming musicians. Sometimes in your solos or work of any kind, it’s about knowing who you really are in order to give, associate and converse to your audience in an intelligent and colorful way.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Jazz artist today are working hard at keeping jazz in the main stream. I so much encourage people to come out and visit the jazz venues and keep jazz live.
