We recently had the chance to connect with Virginia Le Fay and have shared our conversation below.
Virginia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have been vegan for almost 14 years now. Outside of my makeup/beauty industry, making social media reels about all of the vegan restaurants I visit when I travel is bringing me great joy. I like to show that vegan food is delicious and fun, and how I am not being deprived of any flavors while saving animal lives and the environment.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a professional makeup artist & hair stylist who derives much of my aesthetic from mylove, respect, and exposure to opera, theater, and cinema throughout my youth in Spain. By combining these forms of art and transforming ‘moments’ in them with my makeup tools, I have finally found her creative expression.
I have over 20 years of experience in print, video, fashion, runway and bridal. My background includes musical theater and a Bachelor of Science in Motion Picture Production and Art Photography from the University of Miami, in which I gained experience working both on stage and behind the lens. Upon graduation I joined the world of M.A.C. Cosmetics breaking away on my own after five and a half years.
My goal is to share my craft around the world and work with an inspiring caliber of photographers, models, designers, wardrobe and hair stylists with whom to complement my artistic vision.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful is learning I had a singing voice. As an immigrant, I learned to speak English through music. The minute I discovered I could sing, an entire world of self expression opened up to me. I felt special, like I had a secret weapon, something no one expected from me and that could not be denied.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say something to my younger self is to not be afraid.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
A belief I used to hold tightly was that the world was black and white. I had so much conviction in my point of view, I became a bit judgmental. Now I believe, due the miracle and wisdom of aging, that there is plenty of grey in this world and that everyone has a different version of it, and that is ok.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real I would build a world in which animals were respected and not consumed/abused.
