We’re looking forward to introducing you to Olga Velez. Check out our conversation below.
Olga, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would hire me. I truly care about the details and making sure every design fits the vision and occasion. I put a lot of effort into quality, from the materials I use to the way I install, because I want my clients to feel proud of their event. I’d hire me because I know I can be counted on to deliver something beautiful, on time, and with creativity. It’s not just balloons to me—it’s about creating a moment people will remember.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Olga but I prefer to go by my nick name, Kiki. I’m a balloon artist that specializes in creating custom balloon décor that transforms ordinary spaces into unforgettable celebrations. What makes my work unique is the balance of creativity and care I put into every design—whether it’s a small balloon bouquet or a large-scale installation, I want each piece to reflect the personality of the event and bring joy to the people celebrating. My journey started with a love for making events feel special, and over time it grew into a business where I get to help others mark life’s most meaningful moments. Right now, I’m excited to keep expanding my designs, trying new techniques, and making every event I work on feel one-of-a-kind.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My faith and relationship with Jesus have had the biggest impact on how I see myself. They guide the values I live by—kindness, integrity, and service—and influence the way I approach my work, relationships, and challenges. My faith reminds me to approach everything with gratitude and purpose, and it inspires me to create and serve in ways that bring joy to others.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me resilience, patience, and humility—lessons that success alone can’t give. It’s helped me appreciate small victories and stay grounded when things go well. While success feels rewarding, it’s through difficult moments that I’ve grown the most and developed character that keeps me committed to the tasks at hand, no matter the outcome.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the event industry is that balloon décor is ‘easy’ or ‘just for kids.’ In reality, creating a beautiful balloon backdrop takes design skill, precision, and a lot of creativity to make it fit the theme, color scheme and space perfectly. Balloons can elevate any celebration. Another misconception is that decoration is secondary—many people forget how much atmosphere and wow-factor a well-designed balloon backdrop can bring to any occasion.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as someone who created joy and beauty through my work, who loved her family deeply, and who lived with integrity and faith. I want to be remembered as a person who used her gifts to bless others, supported her loved ones, and reflected the love of Jesus and values I believe in every day.
