An Inspired Chat with Nicholas Dolan

Nicholas Dolan shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Nicholas, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
At my work there was a client who constantly comes into the building miserable. I had not personally worked with her yet, she is probably in her 80’s and is always grumpy is what I have heard. Anyways, I finally got to work with her recently.

Long story short, she walked out of the place laughing and smiling after I was with her. My boss came up to me and asked “how did you do that, do you know who that is???”

I laughed and said, “I just talked to her like I would anyone else, she was another human to me, not another number”

Thats how I try and live my life. By making genuine connections with people and not treating them like just another “number” in business sense. We all have value, even if some are a tougher not to crack 😉

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an Irish American man who is figuring out this thing we call life. I model, act, and currently am an adult protective investigator. I am looking to make an impact in this world as we know you never know when your last breath will be so I like to live in the now as much as I can. I love working out and playing soccer and tennis. I love to dance, not choreographed, but just dance when I go out. I like to joke a lot as lifes too short to be too serious.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
When I hear this question, I think it is a heavy one. Trust is key in anything. Any relationship Trust is vital whether its friendship or romantic or business relationship Trust is what makes the relationship strong. Once lies begin to creep in, thats when things break. It is better to tell the harsh truth and be hated for it rather than bs someone for temporary gain.

Repenting is the only way to restore such broken bonds. Not just saying “sorry” but actually truly repenting and taking full responsibility and learning from your negative ways can you begin to restore the damage. Love is everywhere you look, and if you don’t love yourself, you can’t begin to love someone else. That is why people break trust and have affairs and things of this nature, because they never loved themselves in the first place.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say its ok to not be perfect in everything. Thats what makes us beautiful is all those “imperfections which actually is beautiful” I had this tendency to be the “greatest” in everything I did. I had to be the best. No one could be better than me; looks, sports, intelligence, etc. I still need to look back as a kid and find out why I was so obsessed with that and heal that trauma. As I am having more experience with life, I am realizing how beautiful it is to not be perfect. Those cracks and wrinkles and failures is what makes humans shine ironically enough.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
That love is everywhere and everything. There are days I have been stressed and down. However, what gets me out of it is by looking around. You can find love everywhere. In the old man people watching who sees himself, in the wind swaying the plants back and forth as they wave hi, to the couple hugging, the mom fixing her babies hair, the dad lifting his kid in the air, it is all around us but often times we as humans are glued to our phones and our own lives that we don’t look up and smell the roses.

Love is everywhere. Keep it that simple. Remind myself that all the time

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I made them laugh, that I gave them peace, that I helped them, and most of all, that they felt love from me. That is all I want to be remembered for.
