An Inspired Chat with Linsi Matteson of Fort Lauderdale

Linsi Matteson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Linsi , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Photography is something that truly makes me lose track of time and helps me find myself again. I especially enjoy the creative process of working with other artists and creatives in my industry. Devising a concept for a photoshoot and then executing that vision as a team is incredibly rewarding.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a commercial, fashion, and portrait photographer based in South Florida. I specialize in editorial portrait sessions designed to empower and celebrate women.

I have 15 years of experience as a photographer with my background being in fashion and commercial photography. A couple of years ago I began photographing women who came to me for portrait sessions. I combined my background in editorial fashion with the portraits session and witnessed how beautiful and confident women felt during and after the session. Observing the profound impact the sessions had on women’s confidence, it inspired me to transition my focus primarily to portraiture.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother taught me invaluable lessons about work as she was a professional businesswoman and a single parent raising two children.

I quickly observed her passion, drive, and strong work ethic. However, the most profound lesson she imparted was resilience. She faced numerous challenges and adversities throughout her career, but always remained positive and focused on her goals. Having her as a role model taught me that the only true obstacle is oneself.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Trust yourself and make as many mistakes as possible.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Integrity and how it is a guiding force behind my actions, relationships, and the work that I produce. Being honest and ethical is a core value that guides my life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not following my instincts and listening to my inner voice. It is the one and true guide that we have and I think when we avoid it that is when we lose ourselves.
