An Inspired Chat with Kylie Olsen of Hutchinson Island, FL

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kylie Olsen . Check out our conversation below.

Kylie , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me looks like waking up, doing quiet time, and then making brekkie with my daughter. We usually play outside, followed by a stretch in the office while she has a long nap, catching up on email-editing work. My photoshoots typically take place at golden hour towards the end of the day, or sometimes earlier if it’s in the studio! My husband and I are currently busking a photo studio/ tiny house on our property, so that’s been the latest way to spend our free-time, too.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kylie Olsen, a lifestyle photographer based on the treasure coast. I photographed weddings for 5+ years, and decided to step back from working weekends & large events after Covid. Now I photograph families and brands & my work is all inspired by the sunshine, natural light, and laid-back, real-life vibes.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
At the start of the pandemic in 2020, I was full-time photographing weddings, many of which were postponed indefinitely if not cancelled all-together for something much smaller. For the first time in years, my weekends freed up and I had more time with my family, husband, and friends than ever. I realized how fickle the nature work is, even if you’ve build a solid business. It was such a blessing to learn that lesson, and now I’ve cultivated such a balanced work-life. I now have office hours (instead of being always accessible), I don’t shoot on weekends and rather spend them with my family, I have a designated date night each week where shoots are off-limits: I find that I have so much more energy to give my clients now—no burnout, and my priorities have forever shifted for the better.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“Do not grow weary of doing good, for in due season, you will reap a harvest if you do not give up.” That was my favorite verse as a kid, through my teen years, but it’s even more true to me in adulthood with each passing day.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
You have to play the social media game to build your business…I used to find Instagram to be such a chore, constantly posting, creating content to keep up with the algorithm. Now I only keep it on my work tablet, and post here and there. Rather, I serve my clients and am blessed with returning families, couples, and brands, who also refer their friends to me year after year. Old-school hard work often means more than social media numbers & engagement.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope to be remembered for serving my clients with joy, gratitude, and creativity, of course. But most of all I hope to be remembered as a reliable, loving mom, wife, friend, who was a light and put the interests of others before myself.
