We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kamla-Kay McKenzie Napier (no hypen in last name combo). Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Kamla-Kay, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
When possible, I like to start my mornings slowly to ground my thoughts. Right when I wake up, I say a prayer. My personal rule is that I must pray or read a scripture before I can open social media. Some mornings, I make a cup of tea, but I usually don’t eat breakfast until about two hours after waking. Somewhere within that window, I’ll take a shower and check my emails
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Kamla-Kay—Born in Jamaica but mostly raised in Florida and a lover of french toast, dogs and travel.
I am agency-signed model, former corporate marketer, and now a leading posing coach and visual strategist for high-performing women, as well as a mentor to aspiring models entering the industry.
I left my full-time job in marketing to pursue a modeling career, where I booked over 100 TV commercials and print campaigns. That experience taught me the art of movement in front of the camera—not just posing, but embodying confidence, presence, and polish.
Today, I combine that expertise in marketing and advertising to coach founders, executives, coaches and creatives on how to look as premium in photos as the brands they’ve built. My approach is rooted in strategy using my FLUID Method ™️ of posing, not just aesthetics—because your brand isn’t just what you say, it’s what people see.
Through my programs and VIP experiences, I teach women how to look iconic on camera—whether for a brand shoot, an iPhone reel, or a luxury vacation photo. And what’s unique? 90% of my posing clients aren’t models, but their results make them feel like one.
And for the women who do want to pursue modeling?
I offer tailored coaching to help aspiring models break into the industry with clarity and confidence. From portfolio development to navigating contracts to avoiding agency scams.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding every part of my business to serve at a deeper level—including working with more corporate clients like I did with Estée Lauder—while continuing to lead premium transformations and redefine what it means for women to be truly seen on camera
.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
There were different phases of my childhood—some vivid, others more blurred. But in the clearer years, I remember believing that love came with conditions. That to be accepted, I had to be perfect. That taking risks and failing meant something was wrong with me—that I was flawed, not good enough.
Over time, through prayer, deepening my relationship with God, therapy (and more therapy), and inner work through practices like meditation, I started to unravel those beliefs.
I began to understand that I could love myself even if no one else was clapping. That I could give and receive love without conditions. That failure isn’t a sign of inadequacy—but a sign of courage. Proof that I tried.
Now, I see myself the way God sees me—worthy, powerful, loved—and the way the people in my life have often seen me, even when I couldn’t.
Do I still have moments of doubt? Absolutely. But I have the tools now to come back to myself more quickly—to return to the grounded, higher version of who I am.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Amazing question! The fear of not being good enough. Would people see me as a fraud when I started to talk about my success online? Would my success feel like enough within or would I constantly be chasing to validate myself and for others to validate me? Imposter syndrome was heavy until I began to take back my power and have less focus on what society thought of me.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
A clean house—without question. It’s probably the first thing they’d say (after my faith and relationship with God, which always comes first).
They’d also say I value my relationships deeply. I show up when someone needs me—often going above and beyond for the people I care about.
And while eating healthy is definitely a priority of mine that they would mention… let’s just say I’m not above a good slice of red velvet cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory every so often.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Putting off the travels with friends or to see loved ones.
