An Inspired Chat with Jewel Lavenskii of Overtown

Jewel Lavenskii shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jewel , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Getting ready to release my Ep “Effective Lines” this Ep is a captivating five-track EP that explores the highs, lows, and in-betweens of love and connection. Blending smooth melodies, infectious hooks, and heartfelt lyrics, the project captures what it means to fall, lose, and find yourself in the rhythm of another person. Each song tells its own story — from passion and chaos to devotion and self-discovery — delivering a sound that’s as emotional as it is unforgettable.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Jewel Lavenskii (a.k.a. Jewel Jean) is an American singer, rapper, and songwriter based in Miami, Florida, born June 28, 2002. Discovered their singing ability as young as seven, encouraged by their mother, Juenika L. Lee. After Jewel’s mother’s passing, Jewel briefly stepped away from music but returned to use it as a way to heal and inspire others. Known for dynamic flows and empowering, candid lyrics, but Jewel Lavenskii has an EP called “Effective Lines” in the works and will be released January 1st 2026. Jewel Lavenskii is a young, rising independent artist from Miami who blends raw emotional honesty, genre fusion, and dynamic lyricism. Jewel’s music is a window into a personal world—and Jewel is inviting listeners to share in a journey of growth, love, and self-expression.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Performing in front of my elementary school during a Christmas talent show. I remember getting so much compliments and people being so supportive to me.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Feeling like no one was seeing the hard work I put in, I felt so unseen. But I realized as long as I appreciated what I did, I shouldn’t care what others think.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you are only a good artist depending on how much streams and purchases you receive.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build my music career up only because I believe in what I do so much. I really love music.
