We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jenny Cornero. Check out our conversation below.
Jenny, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
When I am into my art. To find out which it would be my next form , how much humanity my animals have in their own complexity . To create a being from an organic matter
And also , if you, as a reader finds this article interesting and you would love to immerse yourself in a yoga session for the first time , send me a message in my instagram, and I will send you a complimentary class with me. To see people willing to get into this holistic time/space of wellness and fun, that also infuse me with joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Jenny Cornero , a yoga inspirer, educator and an emerging animalier sculptor . I am a woman with clear intentions and awareness of what makes me happy and healthy.
Teaching an ancient discipline like yoga trained me to understand the power of positive thinking and conscious breathing applied to every day in my life. This journey has not only enriched my own well-being but has also inspired me to share these teachings with others for the last thirty years, that much had inspired me!
I believe that by fostering mindfulness and self-awareness, we can all cultivate a deeper sense of joy from our inner self toward the wilderness we live in.
Through workshops and classes, (I teach open yoga classes at The National Hotel in Miami Beach for about 8 years) I aim to create a supportive community where individuals can explore their unique paths to wellness. Together, we can harness the transformative energy of these practices to enhance our lives. I have also produced a Yoga DVD program in the past, Yoga for Health with Jenny Cornero, designed to addresss various health symptoms. These programs, in Spanish also, are available today in Prime and other platforms .
This year, I had the distinct pleasure of leading three immersive yoga retreats at the breathtaking Snowbird Mountain Lodge, nestled in the heart of North Carolina’s Smoky Mountains. This serene setting offered an unparalleled scene for participants, myself included, to deepen our practice and connect with nature.
I have traveled extensively, my journeys have allowed me to learn from diverse cultures and traditions, enriching my understanding of holism. We are one integrated self that includes and interconnect our body, emotions, mind and spirit. I’d like to add the breathing itself as one of the main influence . I have been fortunate to witness the beauty and complexity of the world, what made me appreciate the cultural diversity. I feel a strong connection to all the human, animal and natural world driven by empathy for all living things.
On 2023 I embraced the world of sculpture. Moved by a profound inner calling, I traveled to Italy for an intensive sculpture course with Rafaello Romanelli in Florence. Raffaello is the fifth generation of the family to work in the studio founded by the great artist Lorenzo Bartolini.
Being in the center of the Renascence, and under his teachings I felt an unparalleled connection to the process of creating with my hands, immediately resonating with the concepts and forms we explored.
Upon returning to Miami, I rearranged my living room , moved furniture and paintings, the ever evolving canvas I call home, become a mobile atelier, my artistic hub. I gathered tools, purchasing two pedestals from a thrift store, and 20 kg of clay, were just what I needed it to embark on this creative journey independently, fueled by my passion and will. I embraced the learning curve, not without mistakes but continued to progress in my artistic endeavors. This journey, has been so incredibly rewarding.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I see the word through my instincts, my senses, my body, and trying to see myself through in the same way. When I practice my yoga practice is not just about being on the mat. It is also about being. How you see the word start from a very subjective perspective, related to your past history, your circumstances . Being aware of the co-existence of instability, the chaos, the injustice, like it always has been through humankind history, I still practice to see the good , I see love. I envision a world I’d love to live in, like to be at ease in my own spirit , fearless. I believe yoga taught me to get into this state of mind , finding calm in the eye of the storm , challenging the emotions , but still feeling them, understanding the no comfort zone , and jump in there, the strong power that breathing and meditation creates within.
Coherence and consistency.
The creative influence was also inherent at home. Both of my parents were inherently artistic; my mother was an English professor and an impressionist oil painter, while my father was a Civil engineer who crafted abstract carvings in wood and stone. Both were avid collectors of art and ancient pieces. I believe their artistic legacy has profoundly influenced my inspiration at the right timing.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If we relate to struggles and resilience, I would say to my younger self that life is only about to understand the challenges, because they are part of our every day growing, learning, understanding . The journey starts when we are kids , and how we absorb the good and the bad from the beginning can be learnt only through cultivating resiliency , we resist, we let go, we start again…being very patient with your own self. This process allows us to retain the innocence and wonder of childhood.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Since I am my own beliefs, my artistic projection is part of my present and future. I found the art as a compliment of new learnings, healing and fun. Sculpting is a very meditative experience, where only silence exists within the wild moment of manifesting something that will prevail beyond me. My primary motivation isn’t simply to create aesthetically pleasing forms, but rather to use sculpture as a vehicle for exploring the complex relationship between humanity and the natural world. This isn’t about simple imitation; which is not my first choice, it’s about capturing the very essence of the animal – its spirit, its resilience, its curiosity, even its fear – within the clay.
Then after the kiln has done its work, after giving him the consistency of immortality , I focus on the creature’s unique attire: a meticulously crafted blend of textures and patterns in fur and color, often surprising and unexpected. It’s an everyday challenge, and happily is here to stay.
On the other hand , I have been part of the Yoga community in Miami Beach for the last 23 years. Teaching is an everyday new experience in my life. I’ve been so lucky to meet some amazing yoga teachers and long term practitioners over the years, and it’s rewarding to see their commitment for yoga. They had also taught me how to be an attentive teacher and a strong seer. These connections have enriched my life, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect. In this I’m committed too .
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If immortality were real, what would you build?
A time machine 😉
