We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jaime Hinckson. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jaime, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up to birds chirping and the sun shining bright. I blend a mixture of fresh fruits to set my body off right. Then I take a 2-minute walk down to the beach to submerge myself in one of the most beautiful beaches in Salvador, Bahia. Total bliss
When I come back home, I can officially start my day with my mind in the right place. Same thing tomorrow morning
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Jamaican-American jazz pianist that recently moved to Brazil. I have toured the world with reggae artists while simultaneously producing new artists through my music label, Miss Mac Music. Embracing this new chapter in Salvador, I am pushing my personal instrumental piano projects throughout South America and gaining a genuine following. Sky is the limit!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My piano teacher, Joan McMorris, was the most influential person in my life; no comparison. When I started piano lessons with her at age 8, she believed in my talent blindly and would always speak about all the good I would bring to this world with my gift. I didn’t believe it then, but as my life continued to unfold, more of her premonitions would come true. I tried so hard to move away from music, only to snap back with a ferocity that allowed me to walk the same path she always spoke of. I named my first composition and my music label after her. To this day, I start all of my shows with “Miss Mac” as an ode to my angel in disguise.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Do exactly as you did, no regrets. All the ups and downs, try’s and fails, will build your mind into the temple it is today. We needed the break from music to truly have an appreciation for it now. Don’t change a thing and keep believing in the impossible!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d like to believe they are one and the same. I try to be genuine in all facets of my life, on and off the stage. Always transparent and willing to speak my mind completely. I truly love this gift of music I’ve been given, more so because I see the positive things it can do to my listeners. I’ve had some of the most intriguing conversations with fans about the healing powers of my melodies, so many beautiful stories of how my music helped someone out of a bad space. My mission is the same in public as it is in private; I’m here to inspire and heal people with this superpower I’ve been given.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
If you don’t have this feeling everyday when you’re creating art, it’s pointless. Creatives should never be afraid to push limits or stand alone in their artistic visions. On this journey, I’ve found that all things are impossible until you prove it can be done. How boring would it be to repeat the same things that others have accomplished, over and over again? Instead, seeks ways to stretch beyond where people care to venture. Forge a new path that others may follow. To me, that’s a life worth living
