We recently had the chance to connect with Gissi Jimenez and have shared our conversation below.
Gissi, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Sketching by myself, when I sit down to start sketching it transports me to a different world. I get to dive into a fabulous world that is not there but it is.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gissi Jimenez, from The Architect of Style. I have been a fashion and lifestyle illustrator for over 10 years based in Miami, Florida. I started sketching and painting since I was a little girl and my passion for art and fashion was born, I took pattern making and sewing classes at an early age and it never left me. Fast forward to many years later, I started sketching for my fashion blog, where I would sketch outfits I was wearing, and post it online. My first big gig was with Macy’s that hired me to work at a backstage fashion event to draw guests and my side business was born. I’ve sketched for many high end fashion brands like Dior, Tiffany’s, Bloomingdale’s, Saks doing live sketching at events.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Probably the one with my mom. She taught me to be a very hard worker, to follow my dreams and never give up.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Never, I have tried different artistic outlets in my life. Until I found the one that gave me my passion I never gave up.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
A portion of it is. I am very private with my personal life. And try to keep it somewhat separate from my business.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Funny enough, getting a goal or a brand to work with, this happened to me with Chanel. I got to do some work with Chanel beauty and then it passed and I wanted more, so I got more gigs with them,
