Hi Destynee , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is a delicate dance between passion, purpose, and precision. I start my mornings early—usually before sunrise—getting my two daughters ready and preparing myself mentally for the day ahead. Once I arrive at The Optical Experience, it’s all about curating personalized vision solutions for my clients. From tele-optometry exams to one-on-one eyewear fittings, every interaction is tailored to provide a high-touch, concierge-level experience.
My role spans from licensed optician and business owner to front-line educator and behind-the-scenes strategist. I may spend one moment adjusting progressive lenses for a professional on-the-go, and the next moment guiding a small business through our custom vision plan options. Between client appointments, I’m reviewing KPIs, coordinating with labs, updating marketing materials, and making sure our boutique stays aligned with our mission: curating experiences worth seeing.
Afternoons may include mobile deliveries, collaborating with our in-office medical partners, or even planning community events. Evenings are dedicated to family and my continued studies as I prepare for optometry school. My days are full—but deeply fulfilling—because I’m building something bigger than a business. I’m building legacy and vision, one curated experience at a time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Destynee Turner, but most know me as Des the Optician. I’m a licensed optician, entrepreneur, and the founder of The Optical Experience—a boutique-style optical shop based in West Palm Beach, Florida. I’ve been in the optical industry since 2012 and opened my own business in 2018 with a mobile model that evolved into a full concierge vision care brand by 2021.
At The Optical Experience, we do things differently. We offer in-office tele-optometry exams, one-on-one fittings for eyewear and contacts, and a truly personalized approach to eye care. Clients don’t just walk into a store—they walk into a curated experience where they are the focus from start to finish. Our slogan is “Curating experiences worth seeing,” and we mean that in every sense—from the quality of care to the eyewear styling and the connections we build.
What makes us unique is the intimacy of our service. I intentionally serve one client at a time, creating a calm, elevated environment where people feel seen—literally and figuratively. Right now, I’m expanding our mobile services, partnering with local health professionals, and preparing to pursue my doctorate in optometry to further elevate the care we provide. It’s about blending fashion, function, and wellness into something truly unforgettable.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was the first time I fitted someone with glasses as a licensed optician. I’ll never forget the moment they put them on and their entire expression shifted—eyes widened, posture straightened, and a smile lit up their face. In that instant, I realized I wasn’t just helping someone see better—I was changing how they viewed the world. That moment was not only powerful, it was life-changing for me. It gave me a sense of purpose I didn’t know I was searching for, and from that day forward, I knew I wanted to feel that kind of impact every single day. That’s the energy I pour into every fitting, every consultation, every experience at The Optical Experience.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: “Don’t let life’s detours distract you from your dreams—especially your education.” I would remind her to stay focused on higher education, to go after that doctorate without hesitation. While I’m proud of everything I’ve built and learned along the way, I know I would’ve been further along had I pursued optometry school right after completing opticianary. Still, I would tell her this with love—not regret. Every step shaped the passionate, resilient woman I am today. But I’d encourage her to believe in her brilliance earlier, and to understand that preparation is power.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes—what you see is what you get. The version of me you meet at The Optical Experience is the same me you’ll see at home or out with friends. I’m just a happy, smiling girl who’s genuinely living her dream. I show up every day as myself—passionate, energetic, and full of love for what I do. There’s no switch to flip because this isn’t just work for me—it’s who I am. My joy is real, my mission is real, and the experience I create for others is rooted in authenticity.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope my story is told first and foremost by my children. I want them to proudly say, “My mom was incredible. She was present, loving, and gave us everything she had—at home and in her purpose.” I hope they share how I built The Optical Experience from the ground up, turning a vision into a brand that didn’t just sell glasses, but truly changed lives.
I want people to remember that I didn’t just create a business—I created a movement. That I helped other opticians find their voice, their path, and their confidence through The Optical Experience brand. That I made eye care feel personal, stylish, and empowering.
Most of all, I hope the world says I made it better—one fitting at a time.
