An Inspired Chat with Daryl Meyer of Delray Beach

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Daryl Meyer. Check out our conversation below.

Daryl, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have always had a call to “serve”. And I love the one on one of what I do, but I am moving along in life after many years working and while I still love to give, I am less afraid of making sure MY needs are being met. I am choosing to do things with my work that seem more fun and using my free time to make sure I am being served by surrounding myself with good people and lotsa love!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a bridal valet. The position, in my case, is completely customizable. If I am hired by a bride who has a party planner, then I usually perform the traditional steaming of the dresses and tying of the bow ties and make the sure the bridal party is “camera ready” for the big day (and all the photos and videos that come with that!). If I have a DIY bride then I may be running her timeline and handling a larger variety of responsibilities. I come from an event service background 3 generations back, so I can do much more than traditional valet services and enjoy spreading my wings that way. I would say my forte is in my careful attention to detail and making sure the bride’s need are met to the best of my ability.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
As I mentioned, I think there is a strong part of me that loves to be needed and enjoys tending to details. I do think this is a part of me that came from a bit of a survival mentality with some struggles in life. I honor that it serves me well in this career, but some of that has to be released in trust that, after 10 years in the business, I got this down. I can trust my process and let got and enjoy and be more present for my clients.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Oh well, suffering taught me to be humble. Suffering gave me an excellent work ethic. Suffering taught me empathy for others which I use often on such an emotionally charged day! Suffering gave me a position against which I could measure my success and appreciate it. No, actually to celebrate it!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Mmmm. I think the public version of me is “packaged” as it must be to market my talents. Obviously I put, in that package, the best parts of me to be successful at this job. All of those parts are real parts of me. But it is not totally me as there is so much more that I embody outside of the job. But, I trust my spirit comes through authentically and I believe my clients appreciate that.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I have learned that working with my hands brings me peace. Touching the fabric as I steam the satin or as I iron a cotton shirt. It seems to be a way I can focus my energy like an active meditation, But I also feel peace when I read my client’s needs well…sometimes before they know it…and deliver a calm solution to whatever problem has arisen.
