Daily Inspiration: Meet Cristina Bustamante

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Bustamante.

Hi Cristina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved from Colombia to the United States to pursue my university education, beginning in California at University of California, Davis and later continuing my veterinary training at Cornell University. That foundation shaped my commitment to practicing thoughtful, high-quality medicine rooted in compassion and connection.

Over the years, that vision grew into what is now Amor Animal Hospital in Miami, where we go beyond standard veterinary care by prioritizing not only our patients’ physical health, but also their emotional well-being—and your peace of mind. Helping families care for their pets is truly my passion, which is why I’ve also built a strong online community through social media, my podcast, and television appearances, where I share trusted, practical guidance beyond the exam room.

We are also actively involved in the rescue community, partnering with local organizations and giving back through medical support and advocacy for pets in need. At Amor, we believe strong, trust-based relationships with families are essential to providing the best care. Our extended appointment times allow for meaningful one-on-one conversations, where we truly listen, answer questions, and involve you in every decision. We’re also more accessible than a typical clinic—via calls, emails, and texts—because support shouldn’t end when the appointment does.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been incredibly rewarding. Over the years, we’ve built a compassionate team that truly loves what they do, allowing us to grow into a multi-doctor practice. Being here for our clients and their pets when they need us most, while continuing to provide personalized, attentive care, has been the heart of everything we do at Amor Animal Hospital. Every day, we get to combine expertise with warmth, helping pets and families thrive together.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets me apart is my commitment to truly individualized care—I take the time to know each pet and their family by name, tailoring every recommendation to their unique needs. I like to take a step-by-step approach, so my clients know that I won’t automatically recommend every exam or treatment, but instead focus on what’s truly important for their pet at that moment and what fits within their needs and budget. Beyond the clinic, my passion for helping the broader community drives me to share practical pet health advice through social media, my podcast, and television appearances, reaching families I might never meet in person. Combining personalized, thoughtful veterinary care with education and support for as many pets and families as possible is what makes my work meaningful and unique.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up in Cartagena I was always driven toward community and finding ways to make a difference. In my hometown, there wasn’t an animal shelter, so I got creative—organizing community events like dog fashion shows to raise funds for spaying and neutering street dogs. My family was always supportive of my passions even helping me find foster homes for the many homeless dogs. Even as a kid, I loved helping animals and bringing people together to care for them. After studying in the US and vet school graduation I wanted to be as close to Colombia and my culture as possible, and the welcoming community of Aventura was the perfect choice.
