Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Foster.
Hi Rodney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
While vacationing in St. Moritz, a colleague insisted I try a popular European wine called Glühwein. At the time, I had never heard of it, let alone tasted it. Later that day, while having lunch at a local restaurant, I noticed it on the menu and asked the waiter for a glass.
My first impression? It wasn’t great—but it was interesting. And that’s when my business mind kicked in. I immediately started thinking: How can this be done better? How can I elevate the taste,
and bring this experience to the U.S. market?
During that trip, I connected with a friend who introduced me to his brother-in-law, a seasoned expert in Glühwein and wine production overall. What started as a conversation quickly turned into a partnership. Together, we commissioned a vineyard in Germany, a producer already known for crafting high-quality Glühwein and exceptional wines to bring this vision to life.
What began as curiosity in the Swiss Alps became the foundation for a refined, elevated Glühwein experience designed specifically for the U.S. consumer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While it hasn’t been overly difficult, it also hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the main hurdles was getting the bottle labels approved through TTB.gov. In addition, because the wine is produced in Germany, we had to secure a reliable carrier that could properly import the product into the U.S. and clear customs. Navigating these regulatory and logistical steps was time-consuming, but ultimately essential to bringing the brand to market successfully.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder and CEO of Edelheiss Wine, a premium wine brand bottled and produced in Germany and imported into the United States. Edelheiss was created to challenge the traditional way wine is enjoyed. What truly sets us apart is versatility. Edelheiss can be served chilled or warm, making it a unique, year-round experience that bridges modern luxury with European tradition.
The brand is known for its refined taste, cultural sophistication, and its ability to fit seamlessly into both upscale and lifestyle-driven settings. Edelheiss isn’t just a wine, it’s an experience designed for people who appreciate innovation without sacrificing quality.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is building Edelheiss largely from the ground up on my own handling the early stages of product development, sourcing, branding, and strategy independently. That hands-on foundation is embedded in the DNA of the brand. Edelheiss represents vision, persistence, and redefining luxury on my own terms.
I want readers to know that Edelheiss Wine stands for elevated experiences, cultural crossover, and bold originality. We’re not here to blend in we’re here to introduce something distinct to the wine space and continue expanding globally with intention and purpose.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality most important to my success is resilience paired with self-belief.
Building Edelheiss Wine required trusting my vision even when there was no blueprint, no shortcuts, and very little external validation. I had to stay disciplined, adaptable, and willing to learn every part of the business, from production and logistics to branding and distribution often on my own.
Resilience allowed me to push through setbacks and delays, but self-belief is what kept me moving forward when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed. That combination is what continues to drive both my personal growth and the evolution of the brand.
