Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Adams.
Hi Ben, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I did not start Storyteller Adams because I wanted to be a wedding photographer. I started it because I became obsessed with the way photographs make people feel years later.
Early on, I realized something that completely changed my trajectory. A wedding is a one day event, but the photographs become part of a family’s history. They live in homes. They sit on coffee tables. They hang on walls. They get passed down. That realization shifted my focus from simply delivering digital galleries to building a print-first, legacy-driven brand.
Over the years I photographed hundreds of weddings across the country and was fortunate to be named a Top Ten Wedding Photographer in the USA in 2020. That recognition was meaningful, but what shaped my business far more was what happened after weddings. I noticed that when couples were left to order albums on their own, most never did. Not because they did not value them, but because life moved on.
Today every Storyteller Adams couple receives an album. It is built into the foundation of what we do. I host Reveal Celebrations where couples experience their images in a cinematic way and we design albums and wall art together. That single decision transformed both my client experience and my business model. It created higher average sales, deeper client relationships, and homes filled with tangible memories instead of forgotten files.
Based in Wilmington, North Carolina, I continue to photograph weddings with a story-driven, cinematic approach, but I am equally passionate about educating photographers on the importance of print. Digital is convenient. Artwork is meaningful. There is a difference.
Storyteller Adams has grown into more than a photography brand. It is a belief that your wedding images deserve to exist in the real world. My goal is not just to document a wedding day. It is to create heirlooms that outlive us.
And that shift from photographer to legacy builder is what brought me to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Any business that lasts long enough goes through reinvention.
I spent over a decade building my wedding photography brand in Ohio. Strong relationships, steady referrals, real momentum. Then in 2025, my family and I moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, and I essentially started over.
I knew almost no one.
Rebuilding in a new market was humbling. No built-in referral network. No established vendor lists. Just experience, belief in my process, and a willingness to show up consistently. I had to reintroduce myself to planners and venues, earn trust all over again, and prove the value of a print-focused experience in a new community.
It was uncomfortable at times, but it sharpened me as a business owner. I doubled down on what makes Storyteller Adams different, especially the emphasis on albums and artwork. That clarity helped me rebuild with intention instead of urgency.
Starting over in Wilmington reminded me that the brand was never about geography. It was about value, consistency, and creating legacy for couples wherever I am.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the core, I am a story-driven wedding photographer. I specialize in creating cinematic, emotional imagery that feels personal, not performative.
What truly sets my work apart is not just how it looks, but how it is created.
I spend intentional time getting to know my couples long before the wedding day. I want to understand their values, what matters most to them, who they are when no one is watching, and what kind of legacy they want to build. When I know what is important to them, I can photograph with purpose. I am not just capturing moments. I am preserving meaning.
That understanding directly influences how I shoot. Some couples care deeply about family heritage. Others value adventure, intimacy, or faith. When I know those priorities, I can anticipate the moments that will matter most to them years from now. The result is artwork that feels emotionally accurate, not generic.
I am also known for building a print-first experience. Every couple receives an album, and I host Reveal Celebrations where we design artwork together. I believe photographs deserve to live off screens and into homes. My goal is not just to deliver beautiful images, but to create tangible heirlooms that reflect who my couples truly are.
What I am most proud of is that the work feels intentional. It is not about chasing trends or creating viral moments. It is about creating imagery that still feels honest and powerful decades from now.
For me, great photography is not just about light or composition. It is about understanding people deeply enough to tell their story well.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is people.
I have always loved people first. Their stories, their emotions, their dynamics, the way they love. Photography just happens to be the medium I use, but the heart behind it has always been connection.
My clients matter deeply to me. I want them to feel seen, understood, and valued, not just photographed. I care about creating a space where they can be fully themselves, where their story is honored and preserved in a way that feels honest.
At the end of the day, cameras and awards are secondary. If my couples feel known and their legacy is preserved in a meaningful way, that is what truly matters to me.
